Ansonia Clock Co. cabinet clock, “Senator”, C. 1904, the finest and most elaborate cabinet clock they made, and they made several nice ones. The oak case is 22″ high and 19″ wide and like so many Ansonia clocks, is covered with antique brass trimmings. We choose not to touch the wood or brass as it is in original condition. Some prefer the grungy case and grungier brass, while others want it clean and polished. We leave that to the next owner. If you leave the case as is, the dial may suit you. If you refinish everything then you will have to have the dial redone. There is a presentation plaque below the dial stating that this clock was presented as first prize at a “Puppy Show” in 1904. The movement is 8 day, striking a gong on each half hour, clean, and running. This is a good example of this model, in unrestored condition. Ly-Ansonia, page 242-243.

C.1924, Ansonia Clock Co., “Standing No. 9” tall clock, in overall very good original condition This is a spring driven clock with Westminster chimes striking on toned rods; movement is sound and rods original. The case retains it original finish, with soft crazing, but will rub out OK. There is a small age crack on the upper door. The base has some dings on the upper cross strip; the pendulum has some minor scratches. These small cosmetic items can be restored. The lower door has beveled glass, which is fine; dial is excellent, and with selector lever for chime/silent. Tran Duy Ly valued this clock at $1,200 in 1995. Height 72 inches

C.1904, Ansonia SYBIL and INNOCENCE, in excellent restored condition. The base and statue were restored by Chas Carrick. Although Innocence normally appears on Oceanic, there was some latitude allowed in the sales room and the statues are interchangeable. The catalog statues appearing on Oceanic were: Innocence, La Source and Flower. The 3 statues that normally appear on Sybil base are: Gloria, Winter and Melody. It will take further research to determine the variation allowed at the factory or whether these changes occurred in the showroom. Height 27 inches

C.1895, Ansonia “TIVOLI”, walnut cased shelf clock, with restoration. This is a great little case with original finish, even has birds-eye top and sides. At some point the clock got separated from its dial and now has an old replacement and a new bezel. The movement has been recently cleaned and runs fine; 8-day time and strike on a gong. Height 15 inches

Ansonia Clock Co., Crystal Regulator, “Utopia”, 1914. The clock is pictured and described in Ly-Ansonia No. 330. The original “Utopia” clocks are currently selling between $3000 and $4000, if you can find one. This clock is a contemporary model that is identical in looks, dimensions, and most all materials, to the original “Utopia”. This 17″ high case is solid brass with all the same decorations, finials, and dome top. The front and back doors have bowed glasses, all four glasses are beveled, and two have tiny corner chips. The four glass columns are not cut glass like the originals, but they look like cut glass and are identical to the originals. The 8 day movement strikes a hanging gong on half hours and hours, and is running strong. The two piece porcelain dial has open escapement, hands, imitation mercury pendulum, and brass movement, all exact copies of originals. Even the glasses are wavy. The brass case has not been polished. It would take some work but you could make this clock shine like a new dollar.

Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator, “Viscount”, C. 1904. Another outstanding clock from one of the Missouri collections. The body of the case is polished brass and remains bright and clean. All the ornaments, top, feet, 4 sides, came from the factory in a rich gold . After 100 years some gold has worn off and some remains, particularily in the crevices where human hands didn\’t touch. This is about as good as we get not to have been regilted. 4 perfect beveled glasses, original hands, 2 piece porcelain dial, and open escape. If you look close you will see a hairline about as long as a gnats eyelash. The imitiation mercury pendulum has not stopped swinging since the clock arrived. The gentleman that brought me these clocks is an excellent mechanic. The movement is 8 day of course, striking half hours and hours on a standing gong. The case is 16″ high. Ly-Ansonia #337.

C.1910, Ansonia “WIRE” porcelain china clock in excellent original condition. This is a dark magenta clock, the floral decorations are pansies in blue, yellow and purple. Retains original solid porcelain dial in perfect condition; movement is complete and sound, runs but would benefit from service. The gold highlights on the case are still quite bright. Height 10 1/2″

Ansonia Clock Co., floor clock, “Antique Standing”, ca 1901. Large oak cased clock standing 94″ high, 2 inches less than 8 feet, and a goodly number of brass ornaments from head to toe. This is almost identical to the Antique Standing in our January 2003 Auction, Clock No. 1, that sold for $10, 725. The differences are; it was a mahogany case, and 100 percent original and untouched, while this one is oak and has had the black soot, smoke, and dust, partially cleaned off. A good amount remains in the cracks and crevices. Other than some “Nu Life”, furniture polish, or similar oil feeder, you shouldn’t need to do anything. The brass is all pretty clean, not bright, and looks good as is. Some folks want the brass bright, if so, the brass is easily removed for cleaning. Most pieces are held by two small brass nails. The movement is a chain pull up, 8 day, strikes a gong on half hours, and is running. The10 inch silver dial is etched and has black paint in the etchings. There areside doors to access the movement. The clock is all original and ready fora nice home. Ly-Ansonia No. 819.
