C.1883, Ansonia “ALHAMBRA”, mantel clock ebonized wooden cased mantel clock with decorated rubber panels, and in generally good original condition, wear to decorations commensurate with age. Ansonia\’s experiments with hard rubber cases, dials and decorations only lasted a few years, and examples in each category don\’t turn up that often. This particular model also has a gilt rubber dial (both the inset and the chapter ring). On the rubber panels, there are hand painted scenes of flowers and birds which are difficult to make out. The pendulum is not Ansonia, however replacements are available. The movement is Ansonia\’s premium with brass covers for the springs. And lastly, someone cut a small hole in the case bottom for starting the pendulum without turning the clock around on the mantel. Ly illustrates this model in his 1989 Ansonia book, page 182, item 870. Height 19″

Ansonia Clock Co. floor clock, “Antique Standing”, C. 1901. We have had one of this model in each of the last 3 catalogs, and we have another collection of Ansonia clocks coming that will be in the July 2004 auction. A mint original mahogany case sold for $10,725 in the January 2003 auction, while an oak case one, refinished, brought $8500 in the July 2003 auction. This 94″ case is mahogany, it has been cleaned, brass at least buffed, repairs to the case made where needed to restore and enhance the original beauty. This mahogany case in my opinion is nicer than the one sold in January 2003, because it has been cleaned and looks like a piece of furniture. The January buyer requires originality and to him the crusty original look is what he collects. Twisted weights are identical in looks, but appear to be slightly wider than the weights on the previous two we sold. Like most everything else on these old clocks, perhaps the weights were not always exactly the same. Experts tell me that the brass ornaments are not all cast the same, and consequently you may have differing shades of brass on the same case. This clock is 8 day, time and strike, 2 weights that are pulled up by chains, and it strikes on a deep sounding gong. The 10″ silver dial is etched with black paint in the grooves and it has a decorative brass center dial. Ly-Ansonia #819.

Ansonia Clock Co., novelty clock, “Aurora”, ca 1904. Antique brass finish, porcelain dial with a gilt center, beveled glass, ring of stones around the bezel. Case is 11 1/2 inches high. Not running. No evidence that Bubba has been inside tinkering around. You may be the first.

C.1883, Ansonia “Blackbird\’, 30-Hour, as-found. Although this time and strike clock is running, someone stripped off the black enamel door and base, down to the gesso. Note this clock has a great old pendulum with a brass female bust on a faceted star background. Minor plaster repair and some black paint will bring this back. Height 16\’

Ansonia Clock Co., metal novelty, “Bower”, ca 1906. Originally was bright gold gilt, now worn down to a dull bronze or copper. Special 2 ended key to wind and set the hands from the back, key comes with the clock. It is probably 8 day, time only, and runs. Porcelain dial is signed, beveled glass, case is 9 1/2 inches high. Unusual novelty. The lady took a lick on her nose and had a nose job to get it back right. Ly-Ansonia No.2289.

Ansonia Clock Co. mantle clock, “Cabinet D”, ca 1894. Anotherclock in this series of 6 cabinet’s Ansonia made with Antique Oak cases thathad a plethora of brass trim. Earlier in the catalog we had the Cabinet Fpictured. This is the tallest, standing 23 inches high, and the only onewith a visible pendulum, which by the way is the correct Minerva head pendulum.Movement is 8 day, running real strong and striking half hours on an exposedcoil gong. Cast brass dial and dial surround, plain sash and flat glass.Hands appear to be original. There are a couple of pieces of brass that maynot be correct. The eagle on top is not like the top ornament shown in thebooks, but it is patriotic. Also, the bottom trim piece is different fromthe book. There is a small ding in the wood on the right front case cornerat about 2 o’clock. Ly- Ansonia No. 847.

C.1895, Ansonia CAPITOL wall regulator in mahogany, and in clean, restored condition, running. Note top center finial and all 3 bottom finials are new and not correct profile (they look OK, just not right). Paper dial is a proper professional replacement, with Ansonia trademark. Ansonia Clock Co. “Chippendale”, ca about 1880. A fancy enameled wood mantle clock, not pictured in any of the major catalogs, although I have seen several of this model, most with good labels identifying them as” Chippendale, Ansonia Clock Co.”. This clock has a nickel plated movement and strikes half hours and hours on a signed cathedral gong. It sits on 4brass feet, has 6 brass finials and 2 brass rails on top. Movement is 8 day and running, has a 2-piece porcelain dial with open escapement, and beveled glass. On the front are 4 leather panels with hand painted flowers, some highlighted. This large wood case is 19 1/2 inches high and 14 inches wide.

C.1901, Ansonia, CORRECT TIME, Hanging Window clock in good condition. This is the 10″ dial model and there is no chain for hanging, but that is easily replaced with pressed link chain from a hardware store. See drawing in Ly\’s Ansonia book, page 224, figure 772. The original gilding and numerals on the dial is not perfect, but is in good condition. Note minute hand has been changed. Height 10 inches
