in generally good original condition. The clock took a tumble at some time and the base has a crinkle that has been straightened (looks OK). Left side glass has a chip. The nickel over brass finish is worn in some high spots. Still, this is a very uncommon American carriage clock and we sold the last one of these for $800. The estimate on this one reflects the slightly lower condition. Height less handle is 6 inches; total with handle up 7 inches

Condition: generally very good to excellent original condition. There are some scrapes and losses to the finish here and there on statues. The balls of the “arm” have been nicely polished to brass, the clock portion with silvered numerals. Suspension shield and original hands are intact, and it is in good running order. the arm is in original condition, but with a small flat spot on the rear from a fall; color is dark muted green. The spelter statue was brass plated maybe 25 years ago, and the plating is starting to lift from the surface, and there are many small “bumps” of brass all over the statue. However these are not seen from a distance, and the clock is overall impressive and fotogenic. Ht 30″

The eight day time only movement is contained in a metal brass sphere with Arabic numerals, gilt ribbon with bowknot at top and French style hands, The pendulum portion includes three rods supporting a smaller brass sphere with gilt cast leaf ornament, Fortuna is the draped female figure sitting on clouds with a torch held up in her left hand, a bar fixed to the torch supporting the clock, a putti below on her right, all on a molded metal base. The case is in excellent condition with nicely done restoration to the finish. The movement is signed. The hands are original.

This clock has been setting on a mantel in Philadelphia since around 1970, but was sprayed gold at that time; it is otherwise complete and sound. The arm retains original movement, hands and hardware, however the tip to the top ribbon is broken away, and the hole portion only of the suspension has been home-made (works OK). we believe that the swinging arm on this larger rare model had the “Red Enamel” finish which can be seen on top and bottom ball areas that were covered; but the lacquer has now darkened and turned it brown. The large figure retains an old and worn bronzed patina, but no losses or damage. The movement ticks and looks correct, although not visibly signed, but the suspension block needs repair. Ht when hanging 31 1/2″.

Condition: although the metal trim rings for the lion’s mouths are absent, and the pendulum is an old replacement, the balance of the clock is in excellent condition. Ly’s 2004 price guide puts this clock at $400. Has a good rear label that is almost always missing on these iron clocks. Height 10.5 inches

This is a one family clock consigned by a lady in Seekonk, Mass, who inherited it from her grandmother. They took it to the House of Clocks in Rhode Island, and he cleaned the movement to render it running. Brass balls retain original dirt and oxidation, and the statue with original finish and minor pitting; hands and all hardware original. Support stud looks like it was soldered in very long ago and you can only detect this on very close examination under the dirt; also baton has come unsoldered in her hand is just setting there. Overall nice example for those who enjoy original patina. Height 28 1/2″

in very good condition, with restoration. This is one of the more desirable models, however the top finial got knocked off and has been carefully glued back on (looks OK except for the line). The case is white with light blue accents and flowers of vermillion, yellow and blue. With good open escape movement and porcelain dial (movement is rotated slightly in case). This is a very rare model according to the Millers. It is 15″ high, 11″ wide. The case is primarily white with almost half being a very light green around the edges. There is also a nice amount of gold trim, and flowers of blue and red, and shades in between. A most unusual case not only because of the open space and knob on top, but the latticework over the front. Ly-Ansonia No. 2705.

Additional Dealer Comments: Royal Bonn collectors often seem to demand only those clocks with an outside escapement-meaning that there is a little toothed wheel under the numeral 12 which rotates as the clock operates. This seems to fascinate and charm certain types of individuals. Others prefer the shape of the clock case and still others the coloring. This beauty-marked the ‘LA HAY’ by the Royal Bonn Co. (on the back of the clock case) is as colorful and attractive as any we’ve seen. It is clean and without any chips or gouges. There IS however, a tiny hair line on the back of the case below the Royal Bonn trademark. It is stable and will undoubtedly never cause any further problems-but it IS there and we want prospective buyers to know about it up front to spare them (and us) the distress of “discovering” something not disclosed ahead of time.

The case is signed and marked in every way the German case makers signed them; the red Royal Bonn stamp, the name “La Plata” fired into the case, various numbers and letters meaning some-thing to the case makers. This is a great looking case with ruby, green and blue tints, and the usual gold accents. At the top is a lions head, feet with cherub faces, open loops on the side, and the most rare scene of Holland women on the front. The clock is so large and different that Tran Du Ly devoted one whole page to this clock in his Ansonia Clock book. There are several places it could have easily been chipped or cracked, but it has escaped any damage for 100 years. It is 8 day, half hour strike. 2 piece porcelain dial and open escapement. Still the large yellow and pink daisies are painted on with fine detail and set off nicely with sky blue trim. Height 14 inches

One of their more stylish cases with the swirled top, open arches, narrow waist, and wide at the base. The white Bonn’s have come into their own in the last few years and have become one of our most poplar sellers. Very colorful painted flowers of pink, yellow, blue, and lavender. This case is very nice but to show it properly the brass should be polished. Correct pendulum and back cover but like so many we see the door may be a replacement. 8-day movement, half hour and hour gong strike, two piece porcelain dial, open escapement, and beveled glass. We have had this model in many colors, but this may be our first “baby blue” case. A lot of white, gold accent on the high edges, and the pretty yellow and purple flowers on the front and sides. Case is 14.5 inches high, 13 inches wide. Very good two piece porcelain dial, Arabic ring is white, inner dial with open escapement is cream. The case has no cracks or breaks but does have one small chip on the bottom of one foot. You can’t see it of course unless you turn the clock upside down. Metal back cover is not an Ansonia cover, but it serves the purpose. Original Ansonia pendulum bob. The 8 day movement has been serviced, it is running, and striking a gong on half hours properly. Ly-Ansonia, page 638. Valued at $1200 in 2004 catalog. We will deduct for the one tiny chip on the foot.

This model is one of the big Bonn’s that is 14.5″ high and 13″wide, plus it has style with the flame top and the bridges on the sides. The case is in excellent original condition, just needs cleaning. Back of case properly marked for the name of the clock, Royal Bonn Germany, and the firing marks. Multicolor case from light blue on top, shades of yellow in the center to greens on the base, and the usual blooming pink flowers, and good gold accents used sparingly on this model. Very good 2 piece porcelain dial and open escapement, correct hands, pendulum. Clean and nice sash, and beveled glass. Typical Ansonia movement, runs 8 days, striking on the half hours and hours.
