The only thing that keeps this from being excellent is an incorrectly replaced bezel (now spun brass, should be cast). The case itself is fine and the dial is excellent. Compare to previous lot, in same production series. Height 10.2′

Ansonia Clock Co. “Cabinet D”, ca 1894.

One in a 6 clock series of cabinet clocks each with brass trimmings, this the only one with the open well-exposed pendulum design. Also the largest of the series at 23 inches high. Made of Antique Oak, now with a medium finish, not a blemish anywhere. Expertly refinished by Bruce Baziluk the brass is clean and shining like a new dollar. Brass dial with black raised numerals. Movement is 8 day, striking hours on a cathedral gong, running like a top. No negatives, they don’t get any better. Ly-Ansonia No. 847. That book reports a value at $1750, but none of his experts saw this clock. We will call it perfect.

Anotherclock in this series of 6 cabinetÕs Ansonia made with Antique Oak cases thathad a plethora of brass trim. Earlier in the catalog we had the Cabinet Fpictured. This is the tallest, standing 23 inches high, and the only onewith a visible pendulum, which by the way is the correct Minerva head pendulum.Movement is 8 day, running real strong and striking half hours on an exposedcoil gong. Cast brass dial and dial surround, plain sash and flat glass.Hands appear to be original. There are a couple of pieces of brass that maynot be correct. The eagle on top is not like the top ornament shown in thebooks, but it is patriotic. Also, the bottom trim piece is different fromthe book. There is a small ding in the wood on the right front case cornerat about 2 oÕclock. Ly- Ansonia No. 847.

Ansonia Clock Co., “Columbia”, ca 1904. No doubt this was AnsoniaÕs top of the line for clocks of this type.

It sold for $110 in 1904, which intodayÕs dollars would be over $5, 000. This was a near perfect clock when Iobtained it from the Millers. Bruce Baziluk refinished certain parts of thesilver and gold to put it back to like new condition. It is as nice as anyyou will ever see. There are two frieze scenes on the front and one on eachside, all finished in gold, the rest of the case finished in silver. ShepherdBoy statue also finished in silver. The dial and sash are both silver andgold. The sash and numerals are silver, while everything else, inner dial, open escape, dial overlay, and hands, are all gold. The movement is 8 day, striking a gong on half hours and hours, runs fine. As clean inside as itis outside. The black part of the case is enameled iron and it is also nearperfect. It is 25″ high and 24.5″ wide. If you have never seen this clock, you would be surprised at the size, and the detail of the Shepherd Boy andthe frieze scenes. Ly-Ansonia No. 1581.

Ansonia Clock Company, their best of the best mantle clocks, the “Columbia”, ca 1904, with the “Shepherd Boy” statue.

Ansonia made these for a short time; there-fore very few come on the market for sale. The company did not make them all identical; they would vary the finish on the applied ornaments and dials. Bruce Baziluk restored the clock to its original finish, silver ornaments on the base, friezes in silver, and a silver dial ring, every-thing else finished in bronze and gold colors. The Shepherd Boy has its original finish and although not mint perfect it was too nice to have refinished. The movement is 8 day, striking a gong on half hours and hours, running heartily. The enameled iron is also very nice. This is an awfully big and heavy clock, 25 inches high and 24.5 inches wide. If you have never owned or observed this model up close, you would never believe its size. This is the most impressive enameled iron clock or statue clock Ansonia made, and one that will see more appreciation in value than any of the others. It has always been undervalued. The ones we have sold in the past have gone to collectors who are laying them back, waiting on that appreciation. Ly-Ansonia #1581..

The Shepherd statue is missing his staff, and the mouth piece to his horn, and his finish is absent. The base has chips and rust in the black enamel; friezes were painted gold long ago and are dirty; feet painted more recently. Still it has lots of potential and will restore nicely. This example has been nicely restored. The bezel is marked with a patent date of 1876. The dial has turned a little brown from age and there is some wear to the numbers. The mirror has some tarnished areas. This is Davies’ early configuration with spun bezel and soldered accents. The movement is signed Ansonia. There is no dome with this clock. Height 18″

Statue and base were primarily red and green originally, now some of the finish has worn from the statue, base still retains a great deal of the red and green, just dirty.8 day movement, striking half hours on a gong, running. Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn porcelain case, “Dresden Extra”, ca 1895-1905.

There is a large stamp, or label, on the back that says, “Manufactured Expressly For the American Wringer Co. New York, No.1667”. There is a small chip on the base, in back, that may just be a firing imperfection. Case is 13 1/2 inches wide, 12 1/2 inches high. Green tints, roses and other flowers on all sides, and gold striping. 8 day, half hour gong strike, is running. Pendulum and back door correct.Typical Ansonia porcelain clock but not a model they made to sell from their catalogs.
