except for a missing rear bezel and door (accordingly, the movement is loose in the case). But notice the original “Art Nouveau” finish on the statue (silver gown), and the muted tones on the flowers. See also next lot; these Nouveau finishes were optional on virtually all of the figural clocks, starting with the 1904 catalog. This is a very interesting figure, the lady with sea shells in her hair, standing between a water lily and a sea shell, and the base with iris, moss rose and other bladed plants. Height 24 inches

Ansonia Clock Co. , Royal Bonn case, “La Bretagne”

One of the really large Royal Bonn cases at 15 inches high. This model was first produced in the late 1800’s and shown in their catalogs thru 1915. It is a very poplar model, first because it is large, and also because of the open sections at the top just below the shell shaped crest. 8 day movement striking a gong. French sash, beveled glass, 2 piece porcelain dial with the open escapement feature.Decorated in greens, pink and yellow roses, and a nice array of gold around the edges. The sides and top of all these Ansonia porcelain cases are decorated on the top and sides. This clock was important enough for Tran Du Ly to devote one full page in his latest Ansonia Book. Case is perfect, properly marked front and back. Everything original and correct. This clock and the Royal Bonns following all came for a collection of fine clocks that the owner kept in a glass case. Ly-Ansonia, page 616.

A large, beautiful porcelain clock that has it all, shell design on top, open arches, flowing designs all the way to the base. Green and blue tints and just enough gold highlight to accentuate the overall design. Bright and clean roses and vines, front and sides. This big case is 15 inches high, 12.5 inches wide, and is one of the cleanest sharpest Royal Bonn’s we have had in some time. Two-piece porcelain dial is perfect, open escape, correct hands, back cover, pendulum, and key. Eight-day movement, half hour strike on a gong, and runs. We don’t get them any nicer. Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn, “La Bretagne”, C. 1895.

Evidently one of the earlier porcelains Ansonia made. It is also another big one, standing 15″ high, 12.5″ wide, and another of their excellent stylish cases. At the top is the shell design and the two bridges, none of which has been broken. Think of the times a klutz like me, moved or handled the clock in the last 100 years. There are a couple of suspicious places where the original paint did not cover completely and the white underneath porcelain is showing. It was fired that way and has not been touched up with paint as it could easily have been. Insignificant really, I just mention it. Many of the old cases have molding or firing flaws. Like #283 it is blue all over, flowers everywhere, and more gold accents than usual. Excellent 2 piece porcelain dial, open escapement, original hands, and back door. The bezel has not been polished, should be. Ly-Ansonia, page 616.

Another very large case that is 15 inches high, 12.5 inches wide. This one is pink on white. We have never had a pink case and the color is not mentioned in the catalogs. Ly-Ansonia devoted one whole page, 616, to this rare model. Like all in this collection it is near perfect, delicate flowers painted front and sides. As with all of the Ansonia Royal Bonns, it has the open escapement, heavily beveled glass, 2 piece porcelain dial, correct doors, pendulum, etc., and is running. It maybe many years before another collection like this comes our way.

Ansonia Royal Bonn “La Bretagne” in Mint Condition

Porcelain clock, Ansonia Royal Bonn “La Bretagne” with visible escapment, circa 1900. The clock’s actual measurements are 14 3/4″ tall by 12 1/2″ wide and 5″ deep. The reference books state 15″ tall and 12 1/2″ wide. The porcelain dial is 4″, 5″ overall. The maker is Ansonia Clock Co, Brooklyn N.Y.. Condition is MINT, 100% original, no cracks, chips, or repairs to the porcelain case. There is minor crazing in the glaze which is normal and to be expected on an original Royal Bonn. On the very back of the left side, a 1″ by 1/2″ section of the green glaze did not adhere. It was probably due to a cold spot in the kiln when the case was fired. There was much dirt and grundge that was present before the exterior of the case cleaned. This area is not chipped or cracked. If this bothers you it could be color matched by a talented artist. Everything with the clock is original right down to the key. This is Not a chinese reproduction nor are any of its parts. The movement was professionally restored. [ Cleaned, oiled, Pivots resurfaced and polished, New Bronze bushings, the escapment pallets were stoned and polished and the depth correctly set, one new main spring], It is a week duration with hour and half hour chime. The escapement is original as well as the steel pallets. The clock runs and keeps accurate time. The pendulum has a strong amplitude and is not real sensitive to balance. The case is marked “Royal Bonn, Bonn Germany 1755 La Bretagne”. Under the glaze, embossed in the porcelain is the No. 1282 along with some other very faint markings. This is another rare model with exceptional colors and floral decoration. From the top the darker blue flows to lighter blue to light green to dark green at the base. The floral decorations are predominate under the dial being peonies in bloom and a bud. Either side of the clock is decorated with a single bud. There is extensive gold leafing on high relief areas of this clock. Better than 95% of the original gold leafing is present, no touch-ups.

Round French type movement, signed by Ansonia. 8 day, half hour gong strike, running. Correct pendulum, a hinged metal back door. French sash, beveled glass, one piece porcelain dial with a few faint hairlines. This is one of the prettiest Royal Bonn’s we have had. It is not shown in the new Ansonia book, probably in an earlier catalog. It has all the proper Ansonia markings on the case.

Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn case, “La Don”, ca early 1900, very similar to No. 71, cream front and cobalt blue back and sides.

Cobalt blue cases rarely have the Royal Bonn kiln red stamp. There is a generous amount of gold accent on the blue, flowers painted on the front and sides. The case is 12 inches high, 9.5 inches wide, with a mythical bird head or some weird thing on the top. It looks like his mouth is open wide. You will not see the big indention or hole in the picture. The case is perfect, clean and polished. The movement is 8 day, half hour and hour strike on a standing gong, and it is running. Rococo sash, beveled glass, good one-piece porcelain dial, original hands, back, and pendulum.

Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn case, Ca 1901.

The clocks in this collection just get bigger and bigger. This La Vireone is 15 inches high, 14 inches wide. It looks huge sit-ting by the other clocks. There are columns on each corner, lions head above each of the front columns, large feet, simple design at the top, sides, and base, but the thin gold on the edges of the designs stand out and add to the clocks beauty. There are large yellow and rose colored flowers painted on the front and sides. Colors are turquoise at the top blended in with apple green and green, down to the feet. This clock like all their clocks has all the same movements, dials, etc. As expected this one is near perfect also. This is the first and probably last of this model I will see. Ly-Ansonia #2582.

C.1912, Ansonia Clock Co., “La Vire”, Royal Bonn porcelain china clock in excellent original condition (dirty, needs clean).

This case has the desirable 4-color case that came into vogue after 1910, starts at dark rose at the top, down to blue, then to yellow and green in succession. The hand painted flowers below the dial show nice detail. In 20 years of selling Bonns, this is the first La Vire we have had; note the delicate little pierced work at top center. The illustration in Lyis Ansonia book (figure 2582, page 606) does not do the clock justice; it is really impressive in person. Original movement has never been out of the case and needs cleaning. Height 15 inches
