Another extraordinary porcelain clock from the collection of an elderly gentleman who had collected 40 years, and it became time to disperse his clocks. He probably bought this one late in his collecting days, because he didn’t clean and shine it before putting it in the display case. Other than 1 small dial hairline, I can’t see anything here other than perfect. All his clocks were running when he put them in the display case, but some probably haven’t been wound in 30 years. You know they will need oil and maybe a jump start to get going. This is a seldom seen case style, and a large case standing 14 1/2 inches high and 11 1/2 inches wide. There are a great many colors, hard to distinguish some, or even give a primary color. There are yellows, blues, greens, pinks, and many shades of many other colors. There is just a smidgen of gold, mostly on the base. 8 day, gong strike, Rocco sash, beveled glass, 2 piece porcelain dial and open escape. Ly-Ansonia No.2550.

An 11.75-inch by 14-inch wide porcelain case with mauve to green coloring, bright gold highlighting, pink roses on the front and a visible escapement. The outer porcelain dial shows several cracks; it sits behind a beveled glass in a standard bezel. I see no cracks, chips, or repairs to the case; the 8-day time-and-strike movement is signed and running, but the strike hammer is missing the cathedral gong. The porcelain dial is very good, with nearly invisible hairlines at 2, 4 and 5:30. The case itself is an off white with very bright panels of medium violet and lime green, offset with dark pink and yellow roses and gold highlights. Ansonia Clock Company, “La Vergne”, ca1914. This is a large case compared to most of Ansonia’s Royal Bonn’s, standing just under 12 inches high, but a wide 14.25 inches.

Same movement and accessories as No. 65, and like all the clocks in this collection, we will call perfect. Similar colors also used, reds at the top, gradually changing to dark green at the feet. There is a good bit of gold accent around the edges and on the base, and some flowers are all gold, but most of the flowers are rose colored. A very impressive clock. Ly-Ansonia No. 2613.

One of the larger porcelain cases at 14 1/2 inches high, and 13 1/2 inches wide. Decorated in the ever poplar decorator colors, many shades of red, with pink, white, yellow, and purple roses and other flowers. A light sprinkling of gold striping. Movement is 8 day, open escape on the 2 piece porcelain dial. There are major hairlines on the dial ring. I will pack a new outer ring with the clock, you install it. It is also missing the back door. I will include one of those also. There are no breaks, or chips in this beautiful case. This is one that should bring $1500 or more. Ly-Ansonia No.2642.

Jan 2021 – 163 Antique American Clocks Ansonia Clock Co. “La Vera”, ca. 1901. A 12.5-inch porcelain (Royal Bonn) clock in Rich Color Ruby (or rose) with yellow daisies on the front and additional flowers on the sides. No chips or cracks, no crazing, but some loss to the gold highlighting. Beveled glass in an fancy bright sash; the dial has one faint hairline between the 7 and 8, and the Ansonia logo. The visible escapement has steel pallets; the signed 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement is running and striking without issue.

The colors are very striking on this clock, a deep reddish purple around all of the edges and the floral decorations are yellow daisies amongst purple pansies. The top and sides of the case are decorated as well. This is a perforated case, the arches above the dial open for ligHeight to pass through. The signed Ansonia movement has a nice porcelain dial with Arabic numerals plus open escapement in the dial center; this movement was just serviced by a clockmaker and has been re-bushed, plates polished and is in excellent running order. Note this clock had the left rear foot professionally re-attached at some time and is only noticeable on the closest inspection; a surface crack below numeral 7 does not go all the way through the case. We have shown the left foot in the image to give evidence of the good repair. With good Bonn Trademark on the rear. Ready to enjoy. Height 121/4Ó $1,000-1,500

It is interesting that two models have such similar names and are so different in appearance. This Bonn case is an earlier one with white porcelain base case with light blue trim and multi color flowers. The movement in this particular clock is one of the large round units with rack and snail striking off the rear plate. The original porcelain dial has some hairlines near both winding holes. Hands are original. This clock will clean up nicely. Height 13.5 inches

A spectacular Royal Bonn porcelain case, molded and fired leaving perforations and a flame top. The clock is so large and different that Tran Du Ly devoted one whole page to this clock in his Ansonia Clock book. There are several places it could have easily been chipped or cracked, but it has escaped any damage for 100 years. It is 8 day, half hour strike. 2 piece porcelain dial and open escapement. Still the large yellow and pink daisies are painted on with fine detail and set off nicely with sky blue trim. Height 14 inches

One of their more stylish cases with the swirled top, open arches, narrow waist, and wide at the base. The white Bonn’s have come into their own in the last few years and have become one of our most poplar sellers. Very colorful painted flowers of pink, yellow, blue, and lavender. This case is very nice but to show it properly the brass should be polished. Correct pendulum and back cover but like so many we see the door may be a replacement. 8-day movement, half hour and hour gong strike, two piece porcelain dial, open escapement, and beveled glass. We have had this model in many colors, but this may be our first “baby blue” case. A lot of white, gold accent on the high edges, and the pretty yellow and purple flowers on the front and sides. Case is 14.5 inches high, 13 inches wide. Very good two piece porcelain dial, Arabic ring is white, inner dial with open escapement is cream. The case has no cracks or breaks but does have one small chip on the bottom of one foot. You can’t see it of course unless you turn the clock upside down. Metal back cover is not an Ansonia cover, but it serves the purpose. Original Ansonia pendulum bob. The 8 day movement has been serviced, it is running, and striking a gong on half hours properly. Ly-Ansonia, page 638. Valued at $1200 in 2004 catalog. We will deduct for the one tiny chip on the foot.

The case is in excellent original condition, just needs cleaning. Back of case properly marked for the name of the clock, Royal Bonn Germany, and the firing marks. Multicolor case from light blue on top, shades of yellow in the center to greens on the base, and the usual blooming pink flowers, and good gold accents used sparingly on this model. Very good 2 piece porcelain dial and open escapement, correct hands, pendulum. Clean and nice sash, and beveled glass. Typical Ansonia movement, runs 8 days, striking on the half hours and hours. The name is fired into the case. One of the larger cases at 14 1/2 inches high, 10 inches wide. A very attractive medium green with hand painted pink roses, white and yellow flowers, on the front, top, and sides. A great case design, shape of shells used top and bottom, columns on 4 sides, and just enough gold go make it show nicely.8 day, strikes half hours. 2 piece porcelain dial has a half dozen small, dark hairlines. If I were keeping the clock I would put the dial in an ultrasonic bath and the hairlines should disappear, or you can get a replacement dial from Timesavers. While you are ordering get a new back door as this one is not correct. You will also need a small piece of cork to attach the door screw into. This is a simple fix that I could probably do if time allowed. No chips, cracks or repairs. It is having difficulty running long, bad out of beat. With the changes noted this clock should be worth $1200 or more. Ly-Ansonia, page 635.

The open escapement movement has been professionally cleaned and the porcelain dial is perfect. The escape wheel, verge and front pivot support have all been polished and lacquered. We have never seen a nicer La Tosca. This clock came to us from a collector with very high standards and it is difficult to estimate this clock when compared to an “as-found” Ansonia. Ansonia Clock Company, “La Tosca”, ca 1904. A Royal Bonn case with the usual German potters marks, to authenticate their work

. This is one of the perfect clocks that was part of a large collection of Ansonia Royal Bonn’s we purchased a couple of years ago. It is a tall case standing 14.5 inches high, and is 10 inches wide. Beautiful colors are principally rose, changing to light, then dark green at the base. Nice flowers painted on the case and of course gold used as accent on the high spots. As they so often did, they put a lions head at the top and some mythical varmints on the sides. As usual, the movement is 8 day, half hour gong strike, open escapement in front of the two-piece porcelain dial. Everything is clean, shining, running, and striking. Ly-Ansonia Page 635.

This is another colorful, tall case. It is 14.5″ high, and 10″ wide. Colors, like No. 387, start with red-rose on top, changing to light green then dark green on the base. A lionÕs head on top, small open space might be a snake? or varmit of some kind, on top of an urn which changes to a tree? Strange, it could be anything. The flowers are white, yellow, and red. The usual gold accent painted mostly around the base. Ly-Ansonia, page 635.

Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn case, “La Tosca”, ca 1904.

The name imprinted on the back but the Royal Bonn firing marks are inside the case. There are the red numbers, “44.844, 5810, 170”, and imprinted numbers fired into the case, “L8, 2886”. No red crown, FM, or 1775, that we usually see on these cases. This is a large case at 14.5 inches high, 10 inches wide, excellent colors and a goodly amount of gold. Sea shell on a lions head, on top, same on the bottom. Dippy do open arches on the side columns. A very stylish case. Movement is 8 day, cathedral gong strike, and open escapement on the 2 piece porcelain dial. Dial with hairlines that would clean in an ultrasonic, beveled glass. No chips or cracks. Ansonia Royal Bonn ‘La Teste’ Porcelain Mantel Clock

The case, dial and glass are all in near mint condition. The clock stands 10 inches tall, 8 inches wide and 4 inches deep. There are no breaks, chips, cracks or crazing that we can find. The colors are gorgeous and sharp. The case has lots of details with curls and swirls. The bezel is brass with beveled glass. The dial is porcelain and beautiful. It displays the Ansonia logo just below the center. The clock has a brass time and strike eight day movement. It strikes on a coiled gong on the half and counts the hour. The back of the case shows the Royal Bonn crest with the initials ‘TM’ and ‘1755’ and ‘La Teste’. Impressed in the porcelain is the number 1500, the initials GY and a small circular stamp that is not legible. The bottom has a wooden cover. Underneath we found the numbers 3130/6, 4880 and 42. The clock is keeping excellent time.
