35 inch ebony case, decorated with gilt embossed ornaments, beveled mirrors. It has an outstanding mint glass. Many turned finials, railings top and bottom, and a drawer at the bottom for your valuables or a key. This is another near perfect clock from the Miller collection. The dial paper may have been replaced years ago. 8 day movement is running, strikes a cathedral gong. Complete label on the back, signed beat scale. Ly-Ansonia No.575.

Case has original ebonized finish in very nice condition. The gilt embossed ornaments are showing some wear. The paper dial has darkened with age. The hands are original. The movement is signed and has a cathedral gong. Side beveled mirrors are in good condition. The dial support bracket was previously broken and reglued. There is a very nice Ansonia label on the back of the case displaying the name of the model. . The door glass and stenciling are original and in excellent condition. Ht35″

C.1885, Ansonia Clock Co., REFLECTOR, model wall clock, 8-day, time and strike.

Condition: the case has been refinished and the stenciled gold trimmings across top and bottom are absent. The mirrors are flat rather than the beveled ones that are proper. Still it retains original tablet, dial, pendulum and beat scale and can be a place holder until a better one comes along. For reference, see Ly’s Ansonia book [1998], page 177; current price guide $1700. We sold the sister to this in the last auction for $1050. Height 35 inches

Ansonia/German hanging wall clock, “Reflector”, ca 1886-1900. It is 100% Ansonia, even the movement.

However, the movement is stamped with the trademark of a German company, “Maurer and Pfaff and Schlenker”. The dial is marked the same. I would guess they bought the clock from Ansonia and marketed it in Germany with their trademarks. The 8 day movement is identical to the one in Ly-Ansonia No. 744. A couple of finials are missing, case has been refinished, needs some wood feeder to bring it to life. Good beat scale and brass pendulum. The only negative I see is the dial pan. There are extra holes in the pan but I believe the paper dial is original to that pan. The glass has a very good design still intact, just like on the Ansonia’s, and there is a drawer on the base for the key. If I am wrong then you should bid as if the movement and dial have been put in the case. If it were all Ansonia, it would be worth $1700. Ly-Ansonia, page 177.

This is the earlier of two models pictured in the catalogs. This is a great looking Reflector. Some very talented person completely repainted the 35″ case, black like original. Only an astute clock collector could tell it wasn’t original paint. 8 day movement, gong strike. 4 of 5 glasses are perfect (bottom right mirror is cracked). Very nice pendulum and beat scale. I saw one sell at the Chattanooga Regional earlier this month for $1800, and the finish was completely stripped. This is as nice as we have had, even considering the repaint. Ly-Ansonia #574.

The mahogany case has a very light finish. One of the cross piece moldings at the base of the clock has been replaced with a piece of less workmanship. The paper dial has aged. The hands are original.The movement looks very similar to the standard Ansonia movement found in this model except this movement is unsigned except for a “J” inside a diamond which is inside a circle. This is one of the few asymmetrical designs offered by Ansonia. The case has some original casting flaws in the very top that are only visible on close inspection (very small); color is dark pink with purple pansies on the front, top and sides; gold highlights are excellent. The open escape movement is running; the porcelain dial has 2 minor hairlines at 8 and 2. Although not a Royal Bonn, this is a good looking clock for the beginning porcelain collector. Considerable style to the case where on first glance you might consider it boxy. There are no chips, breaks, or repairs. It is a fine case with the correct back door cover and pendulum. The movement is 8 day, strikes a standing gong on the half hours, and running. Rocco sash, beveled glass, 2 piece porcelain dial with outside escapement, correct hands, all near perfect. Ansonia Clock Co., crystal regulator, “Rampant”, ca 1914.

This is one of their models with onyx top and base, and uses some metal decorations on the top and base of the four corners, and a small ornament under the roof line. This 14 inch case is generally good to excellent. I can only find one small chip in the green onyx, it being on the corner just below the left frontdoor post. Feet are different than those shown in the catalogs for this model, but they are correct Ansonia feet and I am sure were interchanged all thetime between the crystal regulators. 2 piece porcelain dial, hands, and open escapement, are near perfect, only one hairline near 10 oÕclock. 8 day movement, gong strike on half hours, everything signed by the maker, just an awfully nice example of the onyx crystal regulators. The 2 piece porcelain dial has some faint hairlines, open escapement, correct hands and pendulum. Purple is one of the colors we seldom see in the porcelains. The flowers are primarily of a purple cast, some faint green and yellow flowers, and a very small amount of gold accents. The case is 11.25 inches high, 12.75 inches wide, and has one tiny flake off of a back foot. Clock is running. Ly-Ansonia #2564. Would be 750 dollars plus, if perfect.

The door glass is old but the “Regulator A” should not be on it; you can scrape it off with a razor blade if you are the winning bidder. The dial is paper with some wear; it bears the Ansonia logo. The 8-day movement is signed and is time-only, running without issue. A good pendulum stick and a bright There are remnants of a label on the back. AAC sold a walnut version last summer for $277.

Antique Ansonia Queen Mary Clock

Jul 2021 – #86 Antique American Clocks Ansonia “Queen Mary”, ca. 1901. Which Queen Mary, you might ask? recent one? Probably not, as she did not become queen until 1910, married to King George V of England (grandparents of the current Queen of England). Perhaps Queen Mary II, who reigned in the late 1600’s and endowed the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg VA in 1693, the second-oldest college in the US behind Harvard. On the other hand, Queen Mary I reigned from 1553-1558 and was known for trying to reinstate the Catholic Church in England. Perhaps Mary, Queen of Scots, a contemporary of Queen Mary I who lead Scotland and claimed to be the sovereign of England; she was under “house arrest” for 18 years as ordered by Queen Elizabeth I, who held the English throne, and eventually had her beheaded, making her a romanticized character in British history would be a good place to carry on this discussion. The 42-inch black walnut case has been nicely refinished; the door glass is old, the dial glossy paper signed Ansonia with the Ansonia logo and some wear. The hands are correct. The small 8-day spring-driven, time-only movement is signed and running, the pendulum and bob are correct. The only thing missing is a label. No recent sales, but $300-$500 seems about right.

Pretty nice original clock until you put your glasses on. The base is oak like the rest of the case, well made, stained to blend with the other wood perfect-ly, but the catalogs don’t show that base. You may know something I don’t but I must call it a later addition. It is 38 inches high; all other wood parts are very good, nice dark oak color. Good full label on the back, pendulum correct but will need some adjustments to make it hang straight, paper dial looks old but if they tried to fool me on the base maybe they did on the dial. The clock wants to run. Ly-Ansonia #625. 600 dollars or more if the base were right, .

Condition: Walnut case is in nice condition with original finish. Original dial has some wear around the number four. Hands are original. Top crest is missing. Original carved bottom has an engraved brass plaque that reads: “Presented to James Watson, BAKER, Cupar., 1st Feb. 1908”. As the word “baker” is on a line by itself, smaller than the name, we assume the Mr. Watson was as specialist with pastries. If perfect, this would be worth $750. See the line drawing in Ly’s book on Ansonia if you desire to make the top for it. Height 36 inches
