Excuse the late in the day photography. I forgot to turn the cartouche numerals to their right direction. I didn’t know it was an Ansonia until I looked at the movement. All the brass decorations are in place, chain is good, excellent pie pan center, stamped brass, red velvet plush is only slightly faded and worn. 8 day, time only, double wind, signed movement, is running. Balance wheel movement took off after I wound both springs. Ly-Ansonia #2406.

There is a band of metal ornaments around the case, near the top, and a big band of cast ornaments near the base, both of which has lost the gilt from the metal, leaving a copper base. Ansonia Clock Co. enameled iron case, “Rosalind”, ca 1880 or earlier I suspect.

A large iron case some-times seen with a statue sitting on top, which is always optional. To me the ladies adorning each end of the case is enough. This is another case where the man repainted the iron, put new gold in the etchings, an adequate gold job but not factory; cleaned the ornaments but didn’t gilt them. He was probably holding them until he found the right person to do all his metal clocks. The case is 12.25 inches high, 15.25 inches wide. Access to the pendulum is underneath; you remove the back iron plate to access the movement. The movement is 8 day, half hour bell strike, running. There is a full paper label on the back plate; it states this is a “One Day Strike”. Not true, the movement is definitely 8 day. The two piece porcelain dial is near perfect with a good beveled glass to protect it. If the restoration had been complete, and well done, we could expect to get about 600 dollars for this clock. Ansonia Clock Co. enameled iron case “Rosalind”, ca 1904.

Iron has been repainted and looks great. Gold etchings were repainted, not as good as when original, but satisfactory. This gentleman did great movement work and for the most part refinished the cases pretty well but he would clean the old finish off the ornaments and stop there. He did not regilt or do anything to give it a proper finish. The ornaments are clean but are down to the copper base. Movement is 8 day, half hour gong strike, running real well. Case is 15.25 inches wide, 12.25 inches high. 2 piece porcelain dial is not perfect but a tiny hairline should not hurt anyone. There is a metal back door, original pendulum and key. The old 1999 price guide values this model at 550 dollars. Since then the Ansonia clocks have skyrocketed in price. Ly-Ansonia #975.
