Antique Ansonia Queen Mary Clock
Jan 2022 – #91 Antique American Clocks Ansonia Clock Co. “Queen Mary”, A 41.5-inch oak case with a clean finish. All the trim pieces are complete and original, as best I can tell. The door glass is old but the “Regulator A” should not be on it; you can scrape it off with a razor blade if you are the winning bidder. The dial is paper with some wear; it bears the Ansonia logo. The 8-day movement is signed and is time-only, running without issue. A good pendulum stick and a bright There are remnants of a label on the back. AAC sold a walnut version last summer for $277.

Antique Ansonia Queen Mary Clock
Jul 2021 – #86 Antique American Clocks Ansonia “Queen Mary”, ca. 1901. Which Queen Mary, you might ask? recent one? Probably not, as she did not become queen until 1910, married to King George V of England (grandparents of the current Queen of England). Perhaps Queen Mary II, who reigned in the late 1600’s and endowed the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg VA in 1693, the second-oldest college in the US behind Harvard. On the other hand, Queen Mary I reigned from 1553-1558 and was known for trying to reinstate the Catholic Church in England. Perhaps Mary, Queen of Scots, a contemporary of Queen Mary I who lead Scotland and claimed to be the sovereign of England; she was under “house arrest” for 18 years as ordered by Queen Elizabeth I, who held the English throne, and eventually had her beheaded, making her a romanticized character in British history would be a good place to carry on this discussion. The 42-inch black walnut case has been nicely refinished; the door glass is old, the dial glossy paper signed Ansonia with the Ansonia logo and some wear. The hands are correct. The small 8-day spring-driven, time-only movement is signed and running, the pendulum and bob are correct. The only thing missing is a label. No recent sales, but $300-$500 seems about right.

Ansonia Clock Co. hanging clock, the “Queen Mary”, ca 1901.
Pretty nice original clock until you put your glasses on. The base is oak like the rest of the case, well made, stained to blend with the other wood perfect-ly, but the catalogs don’t show that base. You may know something I don’t but I must call it a later addition. It is 38 inches high; all other wood parts are very good, nice dark oak color. Good full label on the back, pendulum correct but will need some adjustments to make it hang straight, paper dial looks old but if they tried to fool me on the base maybe they did on the dial. The clock wants to run. Ly-Ansonia #625. 600 dollars or more if the base were right, .

C.1901, Ansonia Clock Co., “Queen Mary”, 8-day time/strike wall clock, as-found, less top.
Condition: Walnut case is in nice condition with original finish. Original dial has some wear around the number four. Hands are original. Top crest is missing. Original carved bottom has an engraved brass plaque that reads: “Presented to James Watson, BAKER, Cupar., 1st Feb. 1908”. As the word “baker” is on a line by itself, smaller than the name, we assume the Mr. Watson was as specialist with pastries. If perfect, this would be worth $750. See the line drawing in Ly’s book on Ansonia if you desire to make the top for it. Height 36 inches

The original paper dial is alligatored and there is some flaking around the number four. The movement is signed by the maker. The hands are original. There is a nearly intact label on the back, about 15% loss. An exceptional example of this model. Height 42 inches
