During this era, there was a renewed emphasis on quality craftsmanship and decorative arts, which is evident in the Tuckahoe’s design.

What makes the Ansonia Tuckahoe clock collectible goes beyond its aesthetic appeal. The clock is also appreciated for its mechanical precision, with an average movement life of over a century. Additionally, the Tuckahoe’s association with the prestigious Ansonia Clock Company adds to its value and desirability among collectors.

Notable features of the Ansonia Tuckahoe clock model include its distinctive “basket handle” pendulum bob, which is suspended from a twisted rope, and the intricate carvings on the case that often depict flowers, fruit, or other

    About the Ansonia “Triumph” Clock

The Ansonia “Triumph” clock, crafted by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company between 1897 and 1906, is a striking example of American clockmaking artistry. This model falls under the mantel clock category, designed to be placed on a shelf or mantelpiece rather than hung on a wall.

The “Triumph” clock’s case is primarily made of brass, showcasing an intricate design that combines both Victorian and Art Nouveau aesthetics. The case features ornate floral motifs, sculpted figures, and a rich patina developed over time, adding to its antique charm.

What sets the Ansonia “Triumph” clock apart for collectors is not only its beautiful design but also its historical significance and rarity. As one of the more elaborate designs produced by Ansonia during this era, these clocks are relatively scarce compared to their simpler counterparts, making them a sought-after addition to any antique clock collection.

Notable features of the “Triumph” include its eight-day time and strike movement with a weight-driven mechanical mechanism, as well as its hour and minute hands made from polished brass. The clock strikes Westminster chimes on the hour and quarter hours, adding an auditory element to its visual appeal. Additionally, the sculpted figures atop the clock’s case, often depicting mythological or allegorical themes, are particularly captivating features that enhance the overall design.

Collectors should be aware of potential restoration work when acquiring an Ansonia “Triumph” clock. While restoring these clocks can bring out their beauty, it is essential to maintain the original integrity and authenticity of the piece whenever possible. As with all

This clock although 120 years old has all original wood parts, dial, glasses, beautiful glass pendulum, and metal ornaments. It doesn’t appear to have ever been cleaned and doesn’t need to be. It has lived in a clean environment all its life. The walnut case is 24 1/2 inches high, brass ornaments are tarnished as might be expected and cupids have some loss of finish, but overall a very good example of this very collectable model. 8-day movement, strikes hours and half hours on a silver bell. Original Ansonia beat scale and pendulum with a slow-fast dial, original glass, dial, and silver cupids on the sides. The spikes in the cupids are slightly bent so they are not all the way in their slot. Bronze ornaments, top and base, Ansonia key. 24 1/2 inch black walnut case, burl look around the base. Ansonia Clock Co. “Triumph”, C. 1880, or more commonly called “Mirrorside”.

Several companies made this almost identical clock. The case is oak, which we rarely see, stands 24.5″ high, and was cleaned a long time ago, not refinished. Everything is original and very nice, except we aren’t sure about the statues. They are white metal and are hollow at the base up about 1 inch, which leads me to think they are original, however the casting isn’t as sharp as I think originals should be. Ornaments are bronze. Plate glass mirrors are clear and sharp. Glass is original as is the dial, pendulum, and lower finials. The top finials don’t look like those in the catalogs. 8 day movement, time, strike, and alarm, runs like a top. Strikes a cathedral gong on half hours, alarms on a brass bell. A piece of the label identifies the clock as Ansonia. Change the poor wrinkled paper dial and you will have a very nice clock. Ly-Ansonia #1772.

We have a mixed bag here. The gentleman who sold me this collection of mirrirsides said this was an Ingraham. No doubt because the pendulum is Ingraham. When I removed the dial I discovered the movement is an 8 day Sessions. The 24″ walnut case could be the Ansonia Triumph, the Waterbury Oxford, the Gilbert Occidental, or the New Haven Occidental, I am not swift enough to tell the difference. There is a full label on the back that is so dark you can’t read it. It runs, strikes a coil gong. Wood parts all would appear to be original, statues are contemporary. Two things we definitely need to do, change the movement and the pendulum. Maybe you can decipher the label.
