About the Ansonia “Star” Clock

Title: Ansonia “Star” Clock Model: A Collector’s Delight

The Ansonia “Star” clock, produced by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company between 1895 and 1900, is a striking example of American clockmaking artistry. This masterpiece belongs to the mantel clock category, designed to sit on a shelf or mantel rather than being wall-mounted.

The “Star” model is distinguished by its unique and elegant design. The case, primarily crafted from mahogany, boasts a star-shaped base with six intricately carved legs that add an exquisite touch to the clock’s overall aesthetics. The dial, framed within a rectangular bezel, features Roman numerals and is often adorned with ornate brass spandrels.

The Ansonia “Star” clock holds significant appeal for collectors due to its rarity and exceptional craftsmanship. Its production was limited, making it a challenging find in the antique market. Additionally, the clock’s intricate design, high-quality materials, and association with the prestigious Ansonia Clock Company add to its collectibility.

Notable features of the “Star” model include a hidden compartment within the base, providing a clever storage solution for trinkets or personal items. The clock also boasts a weight-driven, time-only movement, which contributes to its distinct ticking sound and timeless appeal.

For collectors seeking a rare and exquisitely designed mantel clock, the Ansonia “Star” model is an invaluable addition to any collection. Its rarity, exceptional craftsmanship, and unique features make it a sought-after piece in the world of antique clocks.
