Like all the clocks in this Ansonia collection, this one is bright and shining. Every piece is polished, the movement is clean and definitely a strong runner. Unless my failing eyes have missed something I will say it is near perfect. I started to say perfect but it is 90 years old. Several things strike you about this clock. I suppose the cloisonne inlay would be the first thing. It is on all 4 sides, top and base. There are 4 full columns, rich gold ornaments base and top. The 13 inch case, imitation mercury pendulum, gong and stand, 2 piece porcelain dial with open escapement, all perfect and very clean. This has got to be a keeper in someone’s Ansonia collection. In 1999 when Mr. Ly printed his new Ansonia book his panel of experts put a value of 1500 dollars on this clock. Since then Ansonia clocks have skyrocketed. It would not surprise me if this superior clock went for over .

overall excellent original condition. In 37 years of selling, we have had only 1 other of this model. The most recent sale I find is lot 493 at Skinners / 2013, selling for $1140, and an internet dealer currently has one for sale for $1500. This clock has been well cared for during the last century and is truly impressive Except for a little wear on high spots, nearly all of the original gilding remains and with fine porcelain dial, good hands, high quality pendulum, and open Brocot escapement with garnet pallets.

Cast into the case are 2 ladies in the front (one pulling a boat onto the shore), a hunter and dog one side and family consolation on the other This uses Ansonia’s large round movement with rack striking. Double wind, 8 day, movement, seconds dial, and slow-fast adjuster, all on the 5 inch paper dial. The dial is signed two places as well as stating it is “8 DAY TIME”. Great looking 9 inch, octagon, black walnut case, painted black accent ring, clean brass sash and rings. Although it has been in storage a long time, I wound it and it ran a while and quit. As clean as it is, oil may be all it needs. There is a full paper label on the back. Ly-Ansonia, page 207.

Jan 2021 – 73 Antique American Clocks Ansonia “Earl” crystal regulator, ca. 1914. A 13-inch gilded brass case with four beveled glasses and an 8-day, hour and half-hour gong strike with visible escapement and ruby pallets. The gilding is good in most places; the top is dull. The two-part porcelain dial is clean with one hairline at the 12, the glasses are unchipped except for the back door at the very bottom. It is running and striking as expected. This model is shown with two crystal vase side-pieces in the catalog illustration (Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches , page 114). A $62 clock in 1914; today that would be $1550. I can only find one sale of this model, in 2011 at Harris, with the side vases, for $2600. An auctioneer can hope Can I return my clock if I don’t like it? Absolutely! Save your packing and box, you have 30 days from receipt to return it if you are unhappy. If the clock is not as described, or we missed something important and that is not evident from the pictures, we will refund your shipping costs (both ways) as well.
