  • Antique Ansonia “Music and Poetry” Model Clock

    Antique Ansonia

Ansonia Clock Co. very poplar figure clock, “Music and Poetry”, C. 1894. This clock came with the 250 clock collection that has been in storage a few years. It is very unusual in that the normal “enameled iron base” is not enameled, but has a gold wash, that is original, and was no doubt an option available from the factory. There has been no restoration or changes made to the finish, but is pleasing and shows very little oxidation. It is complete, has been serviced, and all the extras are nice and proper, such as, 2 piece porcelain dial, beveled glass, hands, outside escapement, back cover, pendulum. The case is 20.75″ high, 20.5″ wide. The collector-repairman who owned this collection choose very fine, original clocks, and everyone of his clocks we have found to be in sound running condition. Ly-Ansonia #483.

  • Antique Ansonia “Music” Model Clock

    Antique Ansonia

Ansonia Clock Company figure clock, “Music”, C. 1894. All metal has a silver finish except the enameled iron base that has good black paint. This came from a collector of Ansonia statue clocks. He says the silver color is original, and of course Ansonia did make some in silver. He has several with the silver gray look, and I can see why. When completely clean it looks real nice. The movement, porcelain dial with open escape, original hands, beveled glass, pendulum, dust cover, all original and real nice. Everything is as would be expected from an Ansonia collector, no damage or missing parts, and the 8 day movement is running and striking the standing gong on half hours and hours. It is 21.75″ high, and very heavy. In the last 3-5 years we have seen this model bring $1500 and up in some auctions. Ly-Ansonia #502.

  • Antique Ansonia “Music” Model Clock

    Antique Ansonia

Ansonia Clock Co. statue clock, “Music”, C. 1894. This statue is seen quite frequently with the statue, “Poetry”, on the double statue clocks. These large statue clocks are very imposing, very heavy, and very beautiful when finished properly. This black enameled iron case, the statue, clock tower, and feet, were all refinished in gold. We have had them refinished ever which way and most folks seem to prefer the gold to the original Japanese Bronze. This finish is bright, shining gold, and can be toned down easily if you prefer a more dull gold. The case stands 21.75″ high, and is 19.5″ wide. The two piece porcelain dial with the numerals in circles, rarely found on the statue clocks, is in excellent condition, has the outside escape mechanism, and original hands. Movement is 8 day, strikes a standing gong on the half hours, and in running order. Ly-Ansonia #502.

  • Antique Ansonia “Music” Model Clock

    Antique Ansonia

Ansonia Clock Co., statue clock, “Music”, ca 1894. The harp player and the clock tower are both standing on a black enameled iron base that has stood the test of time pretty well. There are a couple of tiny paint chips, insignificant really, the paint overall is bright and clean. Surely I will be corrected by the more knowledgeable statue collectors, but it looks to me like the clock tower, statue, and feet on the base, were originally all silver except the ears on each side of the clock tower which were gold gilt. The statue has lost most of the finish, the tower and feet have held pretty well. As usual, the movement is 8 day, striking a standing gong, and running. Two piece porcelain dial is very good, signed below the open escapement, has a silver French sash, and a beveled glass. The heavy clock is 22″ high and 19″ wide. Ly-Ansonia No. 502.

There are no breaks nor cracks in either the statue, feet or trim. Rear dust cover is original and stays in place, however hinge has failed. Retains original hands, pendulum and signed Ansonia key.
