Ansonia Clock Co. novelty, “Marcela”, ca 1914. It may be a Jennings Bros. as the dial and case are marked “JB”. In 2 places on the back of the movement it is signed “The Jennings Brothers Mfg. Co.” It is identical to No.2173 in Ly-Ansonia. Ansonia probably sold them to Jennings Bros. Rich gold finished case when first made, now repainted gold. Metal case is 14 inches high. One day, time only, seconds dial, running. Backwind and set. A very nice old novelty.

C.1885, Ansonia, MARBELITE No. 8, in restored condition, with original hard rubber dial and open escapement, now MISSING RUBBER DIAL CENTER. Note the black has been removed from the case and it is in natural brown rubber color. Also has a Welch pendulum which seems to work OK. Height 15.5 inches

Note the gold hi-lites have been renewed and are a bit heavy in a couple of spots. Movement is clean and operational. A very attractive clock. Note; pendulum is at podium; be sure to pick it up. C.1883, Ansonia “Marbelite No. 8\’ in very good condition. The hard rubber case has been repainted quite nicely; rubber dial is original with gilding intact, and also with open escapement. Very few of these clocks survive today and this is an above average example; when you figure the practical nature of black rubber in lieu of marble or iron, it is amazing these clocks failed to sell better. Nice nickel plated movement. Height 15.5\’

C.1885, Ansonia, MARBELITE No. 5, less paint in natural brown rubber case (same model as previous lot). The Ansonia catalog called the decorations on this case “engraved”. Note this clock has the optional hard rubber dial with gilt numerals (you could choose either the porcelain or rubber dial), also with open escapement and original brass hands. Height 17.5 inches

C.1885, Ansonia, MARBELITE No. 5, painted black, and with a couple of cracks on the porcelain dial, but otherwise complete and sound. For those unfamiliar with this portion of the Ansonia line, Ansonia owned a rubber company and for around 5 years offered these molded hard rubber versions of their popular black mantle clocks. They are light and durable and much more practical than the iron and marble clocks they competed against, but were discontinued for lack of sales. They are uncommon, and yet we offer a half dozen in this week end\’s sale. Note also that they are listed in Lys\’s Ansonia book under “Mantel Clocks enameled Iron cases, pages 307-308. I am sure if Mr. Ly had realized they were rubber at the time of printing, he would have put them in their own category. Height 17.5 inches

C.1885, Ansonia, MARBELITE No. 4, in very nice restored condition, with original porcelain dial and open escapement. Best part is the magnificent rear label; note this model is just like the No. 8, only without the top. Height 12.25 inches
