    ebonized wooden cased mantel clock with decorated rubber panels, and in generally good original condition, wear to decorations commensurate with age. Ansonia’s experiments with hard rubber cases, dials and decorations only lasted a few years, and examples in each category don’t turn up that often. This particular model also has a gilt rubber dial (both the inset and the chapter ring). On the rubber panels, there are hand painted scenes of flowers and birds which are difficult to make out. The pendulum is not Ansonia, however replacements are available. The movement is Ansonia’s premium with brass covers for the springs. And lastly, someone cut a small hole in the case bottom for starting the pendulum without turning the clock around on the mantel. Ly illustrates this model in his 1989 Ansonia book, page 182, item 870. Height 19″

    Similar to the “Chippendale” model by Ansonia. Impressive 19 inches high by 19 inches wide case, ebonized with hand decorated rubber panels. This model is unusual as Ansonia didn’t make many of the rubberized paneled clocks. Two piece dial with outside escapement. 8 day movement strikes on a cathedral gong.

    Condition: Ebonized wood case in nice condition with some wear to the paint on the bottom front corners. The two center brass turned feet in the back are missing. Original porcelain dial has a couple of hairline cracks and chips at the right winding hole, other edge roughness. Hands and pendulum are original. Nice original label on the back.     The highly figured marble case is in very nice condition with a couple of tiny chips on the right base corner and along the back edge of the top. The very ornate dial with porcelain number inserts is perfect. The hands are original and the beveled door glass is perfect. The movement is signed by the maker. Overall, this is a clock that has survived in excellent condition. With a jeweler’s label of C. H. Dygert, where it was cleaned in 1918 for $1.50.     All the other metal including statues, clock tower, and feet, were originally finished Japanese Bronze. That finish has disappeared which seems to be common for these statue clocks, and looks clean enough to accept a new finish of your choice, or do what most collectors do, leave it with a pewter or gun metal looking finish. The case has all its parts and accessories, the paint on the iron base is good but the gold is practically gone. The large clock is 25.5″ wide and 20.5″ high. The beveled glass, signed two piece dial, hands, and open escapement, are all near perfect. The back door, pendulum, and 8 day signed movement are also clean and near perfect. LyAnsonia No. 488. Mr.Ly’s most recent price guide listed the value of this model as $2500.

These old double statues are fast disappearing from the market and the good ones are impossible to find.     Antique Oak with brass trimmings, stands 18.5″ high. The top ornament, cupids and an hourglass, has several dates inscribed on the flowing sash around the cupids, such as, 1886, 1887, 1888, etc. which I suspect represents the passing of the years. On each side is one of the mythical gods, and another figure on the front bottom. Very nice original brass dial and sash. 8 day movement strikes a gong on half hours and is running just fine.     The oak case has its original finish and all brass trimmings are intact and show a nice soft patina. The dial is in excellent condition, the hands are original and the movement is signed. This is an excellent example of this Ansonia model. Ht 18 1/2″.

    The china case with no chips nor damage. There is some loss of the gold highlights from normal use. The original dial is good, but the pan has a wrinkle from the last person who removed it and the reflector ring with a dimple as well. The hands and outer bezel are original and fine. Height 6 1/4″

    The walnut case has been refinished and the two statues repainted bright gold. The paper dial, cast metal bezel and hands are original and in good condition. The pendulum bob is a modern replacement, but the correct type. The old dome has a small crack and does not fit the base perfectly, so likely came from another clock.
