Description:Thirty-day wall regulator clock. Ansonia Clock Co. in New York. The Oak case has no breaks or cracks, and it has been professionally refinished to a lovely medium brown shade. The dial has been recovered and the movement runs perfectly and keeps time! Ansonia named this model-The “Office”, and gave it a seconds dial to add to the interest and “action” of the clock. It is a 30-day “long-drop” (to use the term applied to clocks with longer pendulum housings) which are not as frequently found on the market as their 8-day companions.

Beautiful11 inch oak case, 8 day, double spring, time only movement, serviced and running. Full label on the back has been well preserved. Everything is clean and polished, only one fault with this clock. The metal inner dial has been replaced with cardboard which covers up the seconds hand, otherwise the clock is near perfect. I would assume they couldn’t find a correct dial with a seconds dial. Ly-Ansonia No.702.

Ansonia Clock Company, enameled iron case mantle clock, “Nubia”, ca 1894. The clock without the seated statue is 17″ wide and 11″ high.

With the seated statue “Reflection”, it is 20.5″ high. Originally the ornaments were silvered and the case was black enameled iron. The black enameled paint is good, some gold remaining in the incised designs, but hardly any silver or finish of any kind, on the ornaments. That is not to say the case does not look good, for it does, just that it is a gun metal or pewter color now. Beveled glass in the sash, and signed two piece porcelain dial. There are light hairlines and some grime on the dial. The back door and pendulum are correct. The 8 day movement is not shiny clean but is functional and strikes a gong. The statue may or may not be original to this clock. LyAnsonia No. 1097 and No. 2779.

A large, heavy, iron clock, 17 inches wide and 11 inches high. There are silver ornaments such as the frieze at the base showing 7 school children. There are large paw feet and the huge end ornaments which are mythical dogs, lions, or whatever. One of many meanings of “Nubia” is black. I looked it up. Very good 2 piece porcelain dial with open escape, beveled glass.8 day movement strikes half hours on a gong, runs. The iron is chipped along some edges and the silver ornaments need to be cleaned. This silver finish timepiece looks very similar to the “Barge”, but the Barge has a different design on the base (a shell). This timepiece is in nice condition, much of the silver finish worn off; note there was a bit of corrosion on the sail above the dial, but not obvious under silver touch-up. The front bezel that supports the glass has lost its nickel finish. The dial has been very carefully re-papered and with proper Ansonia logo; the hands are original. Seems to run. An uncommon clock. The 2 inch paper dial is very clean, and the amber jewel in the headlamp is intact. Refer to Tran Duy Ly’s book titled Ansonia Clocks and Watches (1998), page 523; his value in that year 750 dollars. in good original condition. These are white metal castings with fine detail and are relatively fragile. Many that we see have fallen off the shelf and the cow catcher broken and so on; this one is still intact (wear to gilding and silvering commensurate with age). Although the dial is dark and there are minor nicks and scrapes, this is still a good example and with rear wind movement running. See also lot 550. Height 7″

Ansonia Clock Co., New York, Locomotive “No. 44” novelty clock, 1-day time, rear wind/set

this clock lived by the sea and the lower portion of the outer brass bezel corroded away, and this allowed some moisture to reach the paper dial and cause some discoloration. There is a horizontal bar that should be soldered at the rear edge of the “wheels” to keep this from tipping backwards, and that bar is missing. It does still stand OK, but you do want to be careful. Ht 7.8″

Although it has had a few minor bumps, nothing is missing nor out of place on this example. The paper dial is still quite good, and the original gilt accents on the engineer and cab are still bright. Retains original “roll bar” in place at the rear of the wheels (this is almost always missing). Whatever price this clock brings will prove that “Condition is Everything”.
