A thick coat of bronze or gold finish under the present coat of grime and an old coat of dull gold paint. Will refinish nicely if you are willing to devote the time. No name on the back, just the firing marks imprinted by the case makers. It is numbered because no catalog shows this clock. When Mr. Ly was preparing his Ansonia book he assigned numbers to those clocks that had no name, hence the numbering system. This Royal Bonn case is pretty large at 14″ high, 11″ wide. No breaks, repairs, chips, or what have you, just the usual hairlines we see in most porcelain cases. The case is predominately cream colored with pink and purple flowers and a small amount of gold highlight. 2 piece porcelain dial is very nice, open escapement, original hands, good beveled glass, original back cover. Correct pendulum, but new from Timesavers. 8 day movement strikes half hour and hours on a gong. Ly-Ansonia #2669.

No. 503. Is actually named on the back, then we won’t have a No. 503 any longer. This baby blue case, like the pink above, is almost never seen by most collectors. These clocks were acquired over a 40 year period and this could well be the only one made in the baby blue color. This is another well designed case, tall at 14 inch, only 11 inches wide. Like all the clocks in this collection, it is near perfect and has all the usual accessories. Ly-Ansonia, page 630.

C.1895, Ansonia “No. 501” Porcelain China shelf clock

in very good condition. This is definitely a German Bonn case, but it slipped through unsigned; retains original Ansonia movement. There is a small brass shim behind the brass bezel that should be removed, but it has been there a long time, so we left it. Good open escape movement runs and strikes and with fancy dial with red fleur-de-lis between the Arabic numerals. This case has the identical floral trim as the clock pictured in Ly’s Ansonia book (1998), page 628; light purple case with yellow and dark pink flowers. Note the sides and top of the case are fully decorated with similar flowers. Ly gives this model a value of $1000, but without the signature, we are assigning a lower estimate; Height 13º”

the fancy dial and mov’t may be from an Ansonia marble case, as the tabs do not meet the case properly and the movement is loose. However fancy porcelain dial is perfect and mov’t is clean and running. There are a couple of very minor edge chips to the case, + a 1″ hairline in rear of case. Note windmills appear on side of case as well. Would be $1100 if perfect. Ht 13.3″
