    8 day balance wheel movement, half hour gong strike, runs very well. Nice one piece porcelain dial, rocco sash, beveled glass. Case expertly refinished in Verde Bronze, complete except for the wand in her hand. This is a two piece set, statue held onto base with pegs, lifts off easily. One of the more collectable statue clocks. Ly-Ansonia No.1496.

    The statue shows three fingers partially missing. Some of the parts are bagged inside the clock case for restoration. The porcelain clock dial is in excellent condition with no cracks.     Both the statue and the base show a very nice bronze finish. The porcelain dial is excellent with no hairline cracks. The hands are original. Overall this is a very nice, clean example of this model. Ht 25Ó

    Jan 2020 – 48 Antique American Clocks Ansonia “Prompt”, ca. 1901. One of Ansonia’s most popular large wall clocks, this one is in mahogany with an old rich finish, 50 inches long. There is an old glass in the door and two side lights, the dial is old paper, rather yellowed and about ready for replacement. Hands are correct, the cathedral gong is mounted on a labeled base, there is an Ansonia beat scale below the large brass pendulum bob that looks original. The 8-day signed, time-and-strike movement is running strongly and keeping time. A label on the back. You don’t see many this nice.

    Large oak case has been refinished and is now a medium oak. It is 50 inches high, has no label or beat scale. Good original pendulum, 3 good glasses, 2 piece paper dial is original and signed. A little soiled but acceptable. A pretty good looking old clock for the money. A beat scale you can find at Timesavers and you can even put a reproduction label on the back if it is important to you to have a label. The way we drag these old clocks all over the country I am surprised when I see a label on the back of any clock. Ly-Ansonia No.599.

    in an unusual two tone case of cherry and walnut. It really has all the contrast that shows in the photo. Interestingly, the clock retains original reverse-screened front tablet of a hummingbird, butterflies and floral sprays. I really don’t know how to estimate this clock, as Ly’s 1998 Ansonia guide puts this 8-day striking spring model at $1000. I imagine that is conservative. Clean and running. Height 50 inches

    This oak cased model has been refinished and is in very good condition. The original paper dial has deteriorated in places, but is still quite nice. The hands are original. The pendulum has a few minor dents and has been squeezed in where the stick enters at the top. Nice example. Height 50 inches

    The mahogany case is 100 percent original, stands 50″ high, has no repairs or new parts, and is overall in excellent condition. The finish is smoky dark and crazed, has never been cleaned and does not need to be, for it looks great as it is. It has one of the nicest glasses we have ever seen in any clock and has very little wear of the designs. In the center of the glass are the initials, “ACCo”, some butterflies, flowers, and a bird. All the clock parts are original including the 8 day time only movement, two piece dial, the hands, pendulum bob, wood stick, and signed beat scale. The movement is signed and running briskly. About half the old label remains on the back. Ly-Ansonia No. 599.

    Top is questionable although it matches the case perfectly. I happen to have another Prompt that I know the top is original and I can see no difference between them. If it is a new carving, it was professionally done. One of the ears on top looks like it is broken when looking from the back, but the break or wood flaw did not go thru to the front. I have never had or seen a Prompt with an original patterned glass like this one. They don’t even picture one in the catalogs. 8 day, double spring, time only, running. Signed beat scale, correct pendulum with minor dings. Dial is new paper on the old pan. Ly-Ansonia No.599.

    . 8-day movement strikes the half hours and hours on a gong. Oak case is 50 inches high. The brass parts were polished bright, painted dial has been cleaned as has the movement and all wood parts. The clock has been expertly restored and is running. Ly-Ansonia No.599.

    Large 50″ oak case has been refinished and restored. I ascertained the wood is original except for some molding at the bottom. If you will compare a catalog picture to this clock you will notice 2 round balls attached to a piece of wood that goes across the base to the other side, with a carved tail piece in the middle. What I have described is in front of the larger tail or base, which is original on our clock. The restorer didn’t attempt to make the pieces but instead put 3 pieces of base molding around the base, I suppose to disguise the fact there used to be something else there. The clock looks good, just isn’t right. This is a nice and fairly rare model in that it is 2 weights, 8-day time only. The movement, mounted to an iron back plate, is in nice condition and running. Old dial was expertly repainted, bob, stick, beat scale, all good. A good woodman could restore this case to near original. Ly-Ansonia #599.

    Condition: Excellent complete and original condition, with only minor losses to the finish, commensurate with the clocks age. The pendulum bob does have some dents, which a careful workman might swage out. The porcelain dial is near perfect with only one hairline. Beat scale with original bright finish. And last, a Super label on the rear, protected under plastic (one corner missing). Ht 50″ [127cm]

    The 32 inch case is solid wood, no veneer except on the bottom door. It was stripped some time back and there are tell tale signs where the case was gouged. Half of the label remains, there is a new paper dial. The “Regulator A” glass and the top glass are original, as is the old pendulum and wood stick.This is an 8 day running clock, striking the half hours on a gong. It is a strong running clock that will provide many years of excellent service for the new owner. Ly-Ansonia No.660.

    There are a several chips in the veneer on the drop section, and a couple of repairs as well. (looks fine from a distance) The hands, mov’t, tablet and pendulum are all original. The dial was re-papered long ago and has some age spots from hanging in a moist climate (from the service labels inside, it appears to have spent its life in Charlestown and Barnstable, Mass). The case retains original paper label in the bottom of the case, with some tears. If you are handy with veneer, you can improve this clock significantly. Height 32Ó $275-$375

    Black walnut case is veneered, good for the most part, but has some bad veneer on the bottom right side, a section about 16″ long appears to have been close to heat. It would need new veneer if you want to make the case look good. Secondly, I would definitely have the dial repainted or put a new paper dial on it. It is the original signed dial but is dark and oil stained. Otherwise this is a very nice clock. It has an excellent Regulator A glass, correct brass bob and wood stick, good paper label inside, and the original hands. This clock has an 8 day brass movement, time only, and spring driven. Ly-Ansonia No. 660.

    Black walnut case is 32 inches long, retaining the original finish, practically all intact, a smidgum of black paint rubbed off the right side of the bezel, insignificant really. Excellent glasses, putty still in place in the bezel. Good pendulum, and even an original signed key. The only fault I see is that the original paper dial has come unglued in a place or two, and the expansion caused a small tear. I believe you can make the repairs and completely hide the tear. The old label in the base also came unglued. I put it in an envelope, hopefully to keep it intact. The movement is 8 day, half hour gong strike. We rarely see a Reg.A this nice. Ly-Ansonia No. 660.

    Polished black walnut veneer case is 32″ high; gold around bottom glass is good, but dirty. Brass bezel and bob have not been polished. Bezel latch is in place but won’t latch properly. Dial pan and dial are replaced. Good large label covers the lower half of the case. I believe the lower glass is a replacement. This is an 8 day timepiece that will give you the correct time and not wake you during the night. A few problems and a lot of good points that is why the minimum is low. Ly-Ansonia #660.     This is basically just a long drop but Ansonia added some extra touches like polished black walnut veneer, black trim around the bezel, made the bottom glass a little more attractive, and the brass pendulum bob is quite a bit larger than what you see on most long drop clocks. Movement is 8 day, hour and half hour gong strike, and of course running. The original dial is soiled over all but a small section on the left side. I would sure darken that to make it look like the rest of the dial. There are some small hauling scuff marks and some veneer repair on the lower part of the door and case. A professional job that doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb. Ly-Ansonia #660. In very nice condition we see these selling for 600 dollars to 800 dollars and in some cases even more.

    Condition: in my experience these unusual restorations seem to come from India, where US companies filled orders from British firms during the early 20th century. Extreme poverty has left most clocks in poor condition. This seems to be a walnut case under the black polish, but there is really no way to ascertain the condition without stripping, and it may be best to leave it as is. Dial center is simply card stock.     Condition: Very good original condition. The item that keeps this from being excellent is a dry split that starts lower left side, and continues under and up the right side; not visible from the front , but visible from the sides. The original dial, pend, hands, and label are excellent. “Bowtie” under dial is loose and needs glue. Note this clock was retailed by Anthony Yeates of Penrith, descendant from a long line of Yeates clock-makers. Included, from an English journal is a brief family history of Yeates, from 1769 to 1885. A nice example of the ‘A’ model. Ht 32″ [81cm]

    Condition: overall very good original condition. Some minor points keep it from being excellent: 1) top glass is replaced; someone opened the bezel a bit too hard, bent bezel slightly at right, and 2) there are a couple of minor repair spots to the veneer where it was starting to lift and has been glued down. The original dial has only minor discoloration. The original finish on the case is excellent and the label is outstanding. Original pendulum is without blemish; original tablet perfect. Looks as good as the foto. Ht 32″ [81cm]

    Excuse the late in the day photography. I forgot to turn the cartouche numerals to their right direction. I didn’t know it was an Ansonia until I looked at the movement. All the brass decorations are in place, chain is good, excellent pie pan center, stamped brass, red velvet plush is only slightly faded and worn. 8 day, time only, double wind, signed movement, is running. Balance wheel movement took off after I wound both springs. Ly-Ansonia #2406.

The paper dial is excellent, but the best part is the original standing doll, dressed in white jacket and pants with blue trim (could be either boy or girl), with both arms grasping the rope of the swing. The bisque doll is absolutely flawless, yet shows just the right amount of dirt for the age. Height 8″ Reserve $1500

    Iron case is 11″ wide, 10″ high, has very good black enamel paint all over and gilt ornaments. All the pieces and parts are present and original, no repairs or damage anywhere. Beveled glass in the bronze sash, signed one piece porcelain dial, and correct hands. The back door, pendulum, standing Cathedral gong, and the signed 8 day round movement, are all original to the case. Like all the clocks in this Long Island collection the clock is running and striking. Ly-Ansonia No. 1132.

    The case and all its cast mountings have been cleaned and polished. The porcelain dial has hairline cracks and the 4 and 8 o’clock positions. The hands are original. The movement is signed. The movement appears to have been recently serviced, and is in running order. This clocks was purchased in a retail shop in 1977 for $110, and has attest taped on to bottom. Height 10.75 inches
