Condition: about as good as you can hope to find. There is some loss of paint commensurate with the age of the item. We have seen these sell for over $1000 at a Mart. For reference, see Tran Ly’s book on Ansonia, page 541, figures 2254-55. Height 9.75 inches

An 8 day clock, striking half hours on a cathedral gong, and is running and running. Porcelain dial is 2 piece with open escapement. 1 little flea bite at 1 o’clock. Round movement, signed, rack and snail count. Imitation 2 jar mercury pendulum. 4 beveled glasses, all good. Brass frieze above the dial, 2 columns with brass capitals and bases, finials on top, ornaments top and base. 1 piece of onyx on top, behind the ornament, cracked in 2 places, and another on the right side of the base, above the metal post. Both can be repaired. Case is not real clean, doubt if it has ever been cleaned. Someone has added red felt cloth on the base. Ly-Ansonia No.409.

Ansonia Clock Co. Crystal Regulator, “Gonfalon”, ca 1906.

Brazilian green onyx top, base, and columns. The central part of the case is a typical crystal regulator with 4 perfect beveled glasses, polished brass case and rich gold ornaments. The case was restored several years ago, so is very clean, bright inside and out, and running very well. Note the Roman frieze acrossthe top, 2 unusual finials above the columns, very nice capitals and bases, and other ornaments on and about the case. 8 day, striking a standing cathedralgong on the half hours, round movement with rack and snail count. Very attractiveimitation mercury pendulum. 2 piece porcelain dial, open escapementwith jeweled pallets. This type onyx has several shades of colors and inthe veins between colors it looks like a crack or break when actually thereisnÕt one. I have checked the case closely and see only one place that mostsurely is a hairline or a split. It is near impossible to see the split whereit is. I just had to find something so I couldnÕt say the clock was perfect.Ly-Ansonia No. 409.

Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator, “Gonfalon”, C. 1906.

Came 2 ways, Brazilian Green or white onyx. The top, base and columns are white onyx. We sold a green one in the last auction for $2375, just a little sharper than this one. The brass was polished and had been restored, where the brass parts on our white one has never been polished. We did tighten the case to prevent any breakage of the onyx. I note a couple of places that could be a small break but as I have said repeatedly the veins in onyx many times are misleading and are not actual breaks. All the beveled glasses are good, no chips. The 4″ porcelain dial has a faint hairline at numeral one. The hands are original as is the fancy faux mercury pendulum, all in good condition. 8 day movement strikes a standing gong on the half hour and hours. A good cleaning and polishing would make this clock almost as nice as our green one last auction. Refer to our July 2003 catalog, # 83. Ly-Ansonia #409.

A very pretty timepiece with shades of green offset with yellow and purple flowers. There is some loss of the gold highlights from normal use. The case is very clean with no cracks nor damage. Ansonia Clock Co. miniature Royal Bonn clock named “Glory”.

It stands 6-1/2 inches high and has no breaks, chips, or repairs. The name Glory, Royal Bonn Germany, and various numbers and symbols, are fired into the case. Movement is one day, time only. The winding key is not long enough and is hard to get my fingers around it to wind. The movement has been in PaPaÕs shop for repair because he forgot to put some of the screws back in place and left off a hand setting key. It tries very hard to run, and does run sporadically. Two inch signed paper dial, beveled glass, and plain brass dial surround. Ly-Ansonia, No. 2483.

Very attractive 2.25 inch lavender colored case with plenty of gold accents. The inner section and sides are white with yellow, pink, green, and lavender flowers. Back wind one day movement is running. Back of case has the Royal Bonn, Germany mark, the signature “Glory”, and the case makers codes, all fired in the kilns. One of the most poplar of the Ansonia swing clocks, possibly because of the wings. This is an absolutely stunning clock, 100% original, and beautifully refinished by Bruce Baziluk, in Syrian Bronze, with pale green color on the dress ands both balls. Base is original, 8 day, time only. Clock stands 28 1/2 inches high, ball is 4 1/2 inches. Not much to say, other that about perfect, running. Ly-Ansonia No.3005.

C.1901, Ansonia Clock Co., GLORIA BALL SWING, 8-Day mystery swinging timepiece, the movement contained within the ball of the arm.

Condition: two minor points affect this clock: top loop on ribbon trim got knocked off, and the bottom of the lower ball was re-painted. Otherwise, this clock is in excellent original condition, with the MOST original statue we have seen in a decade. The statue is really fine with no repairs nor restorations. The owner did provide a proper replica top trim ribbon that you can install, or leave as is. Ticks fine, but has been standing for some time and may need cleaning. Height 28 inches

Ansonia Clock Co. New York, C.1906, “GLORIA”, swinging arm timepiece, 8-day. Note this clock is as-found, for a plumber came to check the furnace last week and caught his tool apron on the brass support for the ball. He grabbed the ball but the brass support broke away clean with Gloria’s hand. Apparently not wanting to discuss his actions, he put the broken support into his apron and said there was no damage. This turned brass rod is available from Timesavers.com, and a reasonable repair can be effected.

the statue retains original bronzed patina, deteriorating and with about 20% loss. This is a long clock arm. Minute hand on ball is broken, piece taped to ball. Ball is refinished to dark blue. There is corrosion on the vertical rods. The bright spot in detail foto is where the stud broke off. Ht 28.5″

Reproduction Ansonia “Gloria” swinging arm clock.

One of the first group of reproduction swing arms produced in the early 1990’s. When they were first introduced the quality of the castings, balls, and movements, was much superior to those being produced today. In addition the brass case has been completely refinished by Bruce Baziluk, in a Japanese Bronze, highlighted in appropriate places, all brass polished and lacquered. The 8 day movement is running briskly and should give many years of faithful service. It has been on my desk for over a year and everyone who admires it thinks it is a real Ansonia. Being fairly new I will call it mint. Like the originals it is 28.5 inches high, balls finished in blue. Compare with the original in Ly-Ansonia #3005.

Jan 2021 – 6 Antique American Clocks Ansonia “Georgia”, ca. 1892. Nobody does black mantel clocks like Ansonia, and there are four outstanding examples in this auction. The Georgia stands just over 13 inches tall and 17.5 inches wide with high relief alcoves and figures across the front and sides. Here the alcoves are painted silver and the figures are in gold; you can find examples with bronze alcoves and gold alcoves all with contrasting figures – see for example #7. The repainting was professionally done and shows; the iron case has also been re-lacquered. There is a two-piece signed dial with a visible escapement behind a beveled glass in the French sash; the pallets are ruby. The 8-day movement is signed with a rack and snail strike mechanism; it is running and striking on a cathedral gong without issue. There is no rear door. Schmitt’s sold a Georgia in 2017 for $2000; Horton’s sold one in 2016 for 1875. $1800-$2000.

Jan 2022 – #27 Antique American Clocks Ansonia “Georgia”, The Georgia stands just over 13 inches tall and 17.5 inches wide with a high-relief bronzed front and silvered figures in the alcoves. The decorative metalwork has been professionally restored but the case itself was not, and it shows a few small chips on the top and edges. There is a two-piece signed dial with cartouche numbers and fancy pierced hands, and a visible escapement with steel pallets. There is a thick beveled glass in the sash. The 8-day movement is signed with a rack and snail strike mechanism; it is running and striking on a cathedral gong without issue. There is no rear door. AAC sold a very similar Georgia last winter for $1600. $1000-$1600.

Ansonia Clock Company “Georgia”, ca 1892. Enameled iron and spelter mantle clock refinished to the original colors by Bruce Baziluk, who specializes in restoring metal clocks.

This is one of half dozen or so large clocks that the collectors covet. One recently sold at Bob Schmitt’s auction for $3472, that was in “as found” condition, which means it had some problems, and we have seen them sell on EBay for $4750. This large case, with statues on front and sides, is 13.5 inches high, 17.5 inches wide. The statues and top ornament are silver and all other metal ornaments are Syrian Bronze, and the iron main case was enameled black. The fancy dial has cartouche numerals, fancy hands and inner dial. The 8-day movement has been cleaned and serviced so you can expect it to be worry free for some time. This clock should be as nice as any “Georgia” out there. Ly-Ansonia, page 382-383.

The 18 ” dial has been professionally repaired and still looks old. 2-weight time only wall regulator in walnut and in very good restored condition. The case had been painted maybe 75 years ago and was recently stripped and finished. You can still see some tiny bits of paint here and there, but overall it is excellent. The dial has been restored by the Dial House. The weights, pendulum, beat scale, etc are original. Door latch is missing, but this can be replaced. Movement has been cleaned and re-strung, however the repairman was not aware that you need two idler pulleys at the top of the case, and you will need longer cable and 2 simple pulleys to complete the restoration. C.1914, Ansonia Clock Co., “GENERAL” wall regulator in oak and in very good original condition.

The only minor replacement is the front door glass which is new and the Regulator decal is not appropriate (note they did stencil on the word regulator in all block caps in the years 1886 to around 1904, but these clocks were offered only in ash or black walnut). This oak model would have been made later and would have had a clear glass. This clock uses Ansonia’s 8-day, double weight, time only movement with seconds hand. The pendulum bob has 4 or 5 dents, weights, hands, beat scale and case hardware all proper, and the original dial is quite good with only minor losses. Original finish was over-coated with a light coat of shellac; looks fine. For details on this model, see Tran Duy Ly’s book titled Ansonia Clocks and Watches, (1998) pages 180-81. Height 68 inches

Not as nice as the GeneralÕs we had in past years, because it needs a little work. The case should be 68 inches high; of course with the top ornament missingit is a little shorter now. There are any numbers of people who can makethe top ornament, but it would help if you could borrow an original ornamentfrom someone. All the other pieces are intact. The 8 day, 2 weight movement, is signed and generally in good condition. The hands and weights are replacements, but are good replacements. Brass pendulum is not as smooth as we would likebut the dents can be smoothed. The big old case is hard to move or hang, and you will no doubt find a bruise or two caused by someone like me tryingto carry it thru a doorway. Mahogany case in very good original condition, except for polishing to keep moisture in the wood. This large, heavy clock is 68″ high, and more than a handful for one person to carry. The only exception to being all original is a new painted dial by the Dial House, very expertly done. The movement is Ansonia’s 8 day, double weight, and time only, with second’s hand. Nice brass pendulum bob, wood stick painted black, the beat scale, hands, weights, and all the case hardware are quite good and proper for this model.
