About the Ansonia “El Audran” Clock
Title: Ansonia “El Audran” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide
The Ansonia “El Audran” clock, produced by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company, is a striking example of American craftsmanship during the late 19th century. This exquisite timepiece falls into the mantel clock category, designed to be placed on a shelf or mantelpiece rather than hung on a wall.
The “El Audran” model is distinguished by its ornate case made primarily of brass, often adorned with intricate floral and geometric patterns. The design is a testament to the Art Nouveau movement’s influence, characterized by sinuous lines and stylized organic motifs. The base is typically round, with a pedestal that broadens towards the bottom, giving the clock a substantial presence.
The Ansonia “El Audran” was predominantly produced between 1895 and 1905, during the height of the Victorian era. Its production span makes it a valuable addition to any antique clock collection, offering collectors a glimpse into the rich history of American horology.
What sets the Ansonia “El Audran” apart as a collectible piece is its exceptional craftsmanship and unique design. The clock features an eight-day movement with a silvered dial, Roman numerals, and decorative spade hands. The most notable feature, however, is the audacious automaton figurine of a rooster (or “Audran” in French) that crowed every hour on the hour, adding an element of novelty to this already impressive clock.
Collectors appreciate the Ansonia “El Audran” not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its historical significance. As one of the most recognizable and sought-after designs from the Ansonia Clock
