About the Ansonia “Satellite” Clock

Title: Ansonia “Satellite” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide

The Ansonia “Satellite” clock, produced between 1895 and 1907, is a captivating mantel clock that graced numerous homes during the Victorian era. This model represents an elegant fusion of artistry and precision engineering, making it highly sought after by antique clock collectors.

The “Satellite” clock showcases an exquisite design characterized by its unique case structure. The main body is fashioned from cast brass, while the satellite-shaped pendulum bob is made of polished glass. This contrast between the heavy brass base and the delicate glass orb creates a visual balance that accentuates the clock’s novelty appeal.

One factor contributing to its collectibility is the rarity of this model due to its limited production span. Furthermore, the “Satellite” clock represents an early example of Ansonia’s innovative design philosophy, which combined practical functionality with intricate aesthetics, setting new standards for American clock manufacturing in the late 19th century.

Notable features include a chime movement that plays Westminster or St. Michael quarters, and a finely crafted dial with Roman numerals and decorative spandrels. The clock’s most distinctive feature is undoubtedly its satellite pendulum bob, which hangs suspended from the clock face by a delicate filigree chain, adding an element of whimsy and sophistication to the design.

For collectors, the Ansonia “Satellite” clock offers a chance to own a piece of American horological history that embodies both beauty and innovation. Its enduring appeal lies in its intricate craftsmanship, unique design, and historical significance as a representation of the golden age of American clockmaking.
