Ansonia Clock Co. Crystal Regulator, “Apex”, ca 1905. This is an original gold plated case with about 50 percent of the gold still trying to hold on. It was originally, or at least is now, an antique gold. Most of the case has a Syrian bronze color, which is fine. If it were redone I would probably have suggested Syrian Bronze plating. All 4 beveled glasses are perfect, or appear so without a magnifying glass examination. 8 day movement strikes half hours on a standing gong. 2 piece porcelain dial is near perfect, open escapement with jeweled pallets, correct hands, clock just keeps on running. Outstanding pendulum bob with ladies head embossed on it. This is another of those collectable crystal regulators that we were buying 5-6 years ago for $2000. Ly-Ansonia, page 109.

Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator, “Apex”, ca 1905. One of their better and most collectable crystal regulators, along with the Regal and Excelsior. The 18 1/2 inch case is finished in original rich gold, still retains about half, with maybe a lot more under the tarnish and grime. The case has never been cleaned. The pendulum is correct. 8 day movement strikes on a gong, and it is running. Good 2 piece porcelain dial with open escapement. If you like it bright with new gilt, we\’ll be happy to supply you with the names of companies that will do it. Actually, most collectors seem to want it original even if some of the finish is worn. C.1905, Ansonia Clock Co., “Apex” , crystal regulator in Syrian Bronze and in very good condition. Much of the dark bronze color has been polished away on the corners and high spots, but this is still an eye catching clock÷the top of the Ansonia line sold for around $100 at the time. Retains original cast and gilded pendulum; excellent porcelain dial with open escape and in running order. All the beveled glass is fine. This extra heavy clock will require premium packing and shipping. If you want one crystal regulator, this is the one. Height 18″ $3250-4250

Ansonia Clock Co. floor clock, “Antique Standing”, C. 1901. We have had one of this model in each of the last 3 catalogs, and we have another collection of Ansonia clocks coming that will be in the July 2004 auction. A mint original mahogany case sold for $10,725 in the January 2003 auction, while an oak case one, refinished, brought $8500 in the July 2003 auction. This 94″ case is mahogany, it has been cleaned, brass at least buffed, repairs to the case made where needed to restore and enhance the original beauty. This mahogany case in my opinion is nicer than the one sold in January 2003, because it has been cleaned and looks like a piece of furniture. The January buyer requires originality and to him the crusty original look is what he collects. Twisted weights are identical in looks, but appear to be slightly wider than the weights on the previous two we sold. Like most everything else on these old clocks, perhaps the weights were not always exactly the same. Experts tell me that the brass ornaments are not all cast the same, and consequently you may have differing shades of brass on the same case. This clock is 8 day, time and strike, 2 weights that are pulled up by chains, and it strikes on a deep sounding gong. The 10″ silver dial is etched with black paint in the grooves and it has a decorative brass center dial. Ly-Ansonia #819.

Ansonia Clock Co., floor clock, “Antique Standing”, ca 1901. Large oak cased clock standing 94″ high, 2 inches less than 8 feet, and a goodly number of brass ornaments from head to toe. This is almost identical to the Antique Standing in our January 2003 Auction, Clock No. 1, that sold for $10, 725. The differences are; it was a mahogany case, and 100 percent original and untouched, while this one is oak and has had the black soot, smoke, and dust, partially cleaned off. A good amount remains in the cracks and crevices. Other than some “Nu Life”, furniture polish, or similar oil feeder, you shouldn’t need to do anything. The brass is all pretty clean, not bright, and looks good as is. Some folks want the brass bright, if so, the brass is easily removed for cleaning. Most pieces are held by two small brass nails. The movement is a chain pull up, 8 day, strikes a gong on half hours, and is running. The10 inch silver dial is etched and has black paint in the etchings. There areside doors to access the movement. The clock is all original and ready fora nice home. Ly-Ansonia No. 819.

Ansonia Clock Co.\’s Standing Regulator, “Antique Standing”, ca 1901. They made a series of 6 different models of the Antique Standing clocks, and in my humble opinion this is the nicest of them all. There is one a few inches taller but it is open well from the dial to the bottom and has very little ornamentation. This clock has a great deal of ornamentation and is the model sought by most collectors.Movement is 8 day, weights pulled up by chains, strikes a gong on the half hours and hours. 10 inch silver dial is etched with black paint in the etchings. Dial insert is also etched. Has been running here in our storage room for several months.The old mahogany case stands 94 inches high and has brass ornaments top to bottom. There are several large brass-bronze pieces. The large piece behind the pendulum is always a little brighter than others, and has been so on every one of this model I have seen. I am told it was made from a slightly different alloy. None of the metal pieces on the case have ever been cleaned and there is none missing. There are side doors to access the movement.This mahogany case is untouched and never cleaned, all original finish on the wood and metal.. Original throughout. One tiny piece of molding on the top left side of the bonnet was lost when transporting the clock to me. I could have had the piece made, but then I couldn\’t say the clock was 100% original. We just don\’t get clocks any more original than this. Ly-Ansonia No.819.

Ansonia Clock Co., “Antique Hanging”, ca 1904. One of many different models they made with brass ornamentation applied over the case. Some brass pieces are quite large and very detailed. The top piece for instance is a scene of a teacher and 2 pupils. There is another large piece behind the pendulum.The 46.5″ mahogany case has the original dark finish. There is no crazingso would guess it has been cleaned at some point with furniture polish, butdefinitely not refinished. The brass is clean, the clock is running, so itis ready to hang and enjoy. No doubt the nicest we have ever had. I wentover it with a fine tooth comb and can only find one tiny repair. One ofthe top finials probably fell and broke a tiny piece off the back about halfthe size of a pea. It was either glued back or filled with wood putty andstained. Positively insignificant and would never be seen unless you werelooking like I was, for any deficiencies. Movement is 8 day, half hour gongstrike, running great. Everything original, correct, as nice as youcould hope to find. Ly-Ansonia, pages 178-179.

C.1900, Ansonia, “ANTIQUE HANGING”, wall clock in oak and in outstanding original condition. There is really nothing more to say. This is the hanging antique that everyone would like to own. 2-wt, 8-day, striking on a cathedral gong. The original finish is all intact; all ormolu trim is present, with half gold highlights missing from regular dusting of the clock. C.1900, Ansonia “ANTIQUE HANGING\’ in outstanding original condition. This clock has an interesting “dealer option” pull-wind music box (see gold pull cord in photo), that plays a lively, crisp tune. By all appearances the music box has been there a hundred years. The rest of the clock is really “virtually new\’; the case has been cleaned with cotton cleanser, but retains original finish; the bronze ornamentation is all intact and bright; the brass dial retains original patina, never polished and the 12 cartouche numerals are all perfect. The only missing items are the two cast brass nuts that go on the bottom of the weights. The sister to this clock just sold at Gene Harris” auction for $10,000. Height 46 \’

C.1874, Ansonia Brass and Copper Co., Ansonia, CT. 8-day “Ansonia” model wall timepiece. This clock has an excellent, complete walnut case which has been nicely refinished. The paper dial, hands and false mercury pendulum are original. There is no label or name on the dial or movement, but this model was sold through the American Clock Company and shown in early Ansonia catalogs. There are 4 small holes in the bottom of the case where a foto was secured, but these are minor. For reference on this model, see Tran Duy Ly\’s Ansonia Clocks, p. 169 No. 548. Height 37 inches
