Title: Ansonia “La Provence” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide
The Ansonia “La Provence” clock is a timeless masterpiece that graces any collector’s mantel or wall with its exquisite design and craftsmanship. Classified as a mantel clock, this model boasts an intricate case construction, primarily made of walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, adorned with various decorative elements such as gilt scrollwork, beveled glass, and intricate marquetry. The design is inspired by the French provincial style, characterized by its ornate details and elegant simplicity.
Produced between 1890 and 1925, the Ansonia “La Provence” clock embodies the height of the Victorian era’s aesthetic sensibilities. Its production span coincides with a period of significant growth for both the Ansonia Clock Company and the broader antique clock market, making it a desirable collectible for connoisseurs.
One of the factors contributing to the “La Provence” model’s collectibility is its exceptional craftsmanship and unique design elements. Notable features include a finely-detailed dial with Roman numerals, a delicately carved figure atop the case (usually depicting a woman or a cherub), and a striking mechanical movement that chimes on the hour and half-hour. The clock’s combination of beauty, historical significance, and excellent mechanical function make it an essential addition to any antique clock collection.
While prices for antique clocks can vary greatly based on condition, rarity, and other factors, the Ansonia “La Provence” clock is generally sought after by collectors and frequently commands a premium in the market. A well-preserved example of this model would be an excellent addition

Ly lists this clock with portrait at $3000, while he shows the portrait LaCerda at $3700, so we figure his estimated price is on the low side.
