About the Ansonia “La Calle” Clock

Title: Ansonia “La Calle” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide

The Ansonia “La Calle” clock is a captivating mantel clock that graced homes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, epitomizing the industrial elegance of the era. This model, produced between approximately 1895 and 1930, represents one of Ansonia’s most sought-after creations.

The “La Calle” clock is characterized by its unique case design, typically crafted from high-quality mahogany or walnut woods, with intricate carvings that accentuate the Italian Renaissance-inspired motifs. The clock’s base features an ornate, openwork design reminiscent of a Grecian urn, while the upper section showcases a delicate, sculpted floral pattern.

What sets the Ansonia “La Calle” apart in the collector’s market is its harmonious blend of artistry and craftsmanship. Its design, rooted in historical aesthetic influences, appeals to collectors seeking unique and well-crafted pieces that represent a pivotal period in American clockmaking.

Notable features include an eight-day time-and-strike movement, with the striking mechanism housed within the base, and a finely crafted brass-faced dial featuring Roman numerals and ornate hands. The clock’s hour strike is often accompanied by a Westminster chime on the quarter hours, adding to its charm and collectibility.

In addition to its aesthetics and mechanical qualities, the “La Calle” clock holds historical significance as a testament to Ansonia’s commitment to producing high-quality, artfully designed timepieces that continue to captivate collectors today.

Ansonia Clock Co. Royal Bonn case, “La Calle”, Ca 1901.

This is another rare model from the Millers fine collection of Ansonia porcelain clocks. It is 14 inches high, 10″ wide, sitting high on four feet. A baby blue case, lots of white, a smattering of gold accents, and the usual flowers, these are purple and yellow. Perfect case, no chips or cracks, clean and polished as all their clocks are. 8-day movement is running and striking a cathedral gong on half hours. The back metal cover and pendulum bob are correct. The Millers say this clock is “very rare”. For them to say that, it must be. Two-piece porcelain dial is perfect; has the correct hands, open escapement, beveled glass, Rocco sash, all perfect. The movement and all metal are clean and polished. Ly-Ansonia No. 2673.
