About the Ansonia “Viceroy” Clock

Title: Ansonia Viceroy Clock Model: A Collector’s Gem

The Ansonia “Viceroy” clock model, produced by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company between 1895 and 1917, is an exquisite mantel clock that graces any collector’s library or parlor. This model is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship and design innovation that characterized the Ansonia Clock Company during its golden age.

The Viceroy’s case is typically crafted from high-quality mahogany, cherry, or walnut, with intricate details such as elaborate gilt-bronze mountings and finials. The design showcases a blend of the Victorian and Edwardian styles, featuring graceful lines, floral motifs, and ornate carvings that reflect the opulence of the era.

What sets the Ansonia Viceroy apart as a collectible piece is its combination of artistic beauty with exceptional mechanical precision. The clock features an eight-day time-and-strike movement, driven by a weight-driven system and regulated by a pendulum. Notable features include a striking mechanism that produces a rich, resonant chime upon the hour and half-hour, and a dial adorned with Arabic numerals and decorated with a variety of designs, such as floral patterns or intricate scrollwork.

Moreover, the Ansonia Viceroy is cherished by collectors for its rarity. Due to the intensive labor involved in creating each clock, production was limited, making well-preserved examples highly sought after. The beauty of the Viceroy lies not only in its striking aesthetics but also in its historical significance as a testament to the American industrial and artistic achievements of the late 19th and early

Negatives first: the top urn on the clock is slightly bent (not broken), and the entire set has been heavily sprayed with gold radiator paint. Now on the plus side, this is one of the best looking sets we’ve seen in a while, and the spelter trim appears to be 100 percent intact, no missing bits nor corners. The open escape movement is in good order, with good dial (one minor hairline at 9:30) and with original faux mercury pendulum, vials intact. The heavy beveled glass is all in good condition. This clock set is worthy of a good refinishing or plating job. Height of candelabra 16 ” (includes both fancy snuffers), height of clock 16″ The modest reserve is for all 3 pieces: $600
