About the Ansonia “Tacoma” Clock

Title: Ansonia “Tacoma” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide

The Ansonia “Tacoma” clock, crafted by the esteemed Ansonia Clock Company, is a stunning example of American horology artistry. This mantel clock falls under the category of decorative clocks, designed to complement and enhance interior décor while providing precise timekeeping.

Typical case materials for the Tacoma model include mahogany, walnut, or oak, with intricate inlays often adorning the front door and base. The design is characterized by a slender column structure supporting the clock face, giving it an elegant and refined appearance. The column often features fluting, decorative carvings, or ornamental capitals that add to its visual appeal.

Produced between 1890 and 1920, the Tacoma model embodies the Victorian and Edwardian periods’ aesthetic sensibilities. Its creation coincides with Ansonia’s golden age of clockmaking, a time when the company produced some of its most sought-after designs.

What makes the Tacoma model collectible is its combination of artistic beauty and mechanical precision. Each piece showcases Ansonia’s commitment to craftsmanship, with meticulously carved details and finishes that highlight the elegance of the Victorian era. The clock’s movement, a testament to the company’s engineering prowess, ensures reliable timekeeping for generations.

Notable features include the Roman numerals on the silvered dial, which contrast beautifully against the rich wood grain, and the swinging pendulum visible through the glass door. Some Tacoma models also feature a musical movement that plays a selection of popular tunes when the hour strikes. This unique feature adds an extra dimension to the clock’s charm and collectibility
