Title: Ansonia “La Clairmont” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide
The Ansonia “La Clairmont” clock, produced by the renowned American clock manufacturer Ansonia Clock Company, is a stunning mantel clock that graced homes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This exquisite timepiece, created between approximately 1876 and 1900, showcases the company’s commitment to craftsmanship and artistic design.
The “La Clairmont” clock is recognized for its ornate case materials and design. The case is typically made of rich mahogany or walnut, adorned with intricate carvings, gilt accents, and a beautifully sculpted female figure on the dial side. The clock’s base is often decorated with foliate scrollwork and features brass finials at the top corners.
For collectors, the “La Clairmont” clock stands out due to its rarity and exceptional craftsmanship. As one of Ansonia’s most elaborate designs, it represents a pinnacle in American clock-making during the Victorian era. The clock’s collectibility is further enhanced by its distinctive features such as the finely-detailed bronze figures and the enamel dial with Roman numerals.
Notable features of the “La Clairmont” clock include its three-weight, time-and-strike movement that offers both chiming and silent operation, and the swinging pendulum visible through an ornate glass door. The clock’s 8-day movement ensures it keeps accurate time for a week before needing to be wound. This masterpiece not only serves as a functional timekeeper but also as a stunning decorative piece, making it a prized possession for any antique clock collector.

C.1905, Ansonia “La Clairmont’ Royal Bonn china clock.
The solid porcelain dial has chips around 2:30. I see replacement dials advertised in the NAWCC Mart. There is also a 1′ crack by one rear dust cover bushing; no chips. Otherwise this is a great Royal Bonn with good colors: dark red at top down to yellow to green at bottom, sound movement and original pendulum; would be $700 if perfect; height 11′
