About the Ansonia “La Cannes” Clock

Title: Ansonia “La Cannes” Clock Model: A Collector’s Guide

The Ansonia “La Cannes” clock, produced between 1890 and 1905, is a remarkable mantel clock that showcases the artistic prowess of the Ansonia Clock Company. This model is not only admired for its aesthetic appeal but also for its superior craftsmanship, making it a prized possession among antique clock collectors.

The “La Cannes” clock boasts a unique case design that sets it apart from other mantel clocks of the era. The primary materials used in its construction are mahogany and brass, which not only imbue the clock with a rich, warm appearance but also contribute to its durability over time. The intricate carved designs on the case, inspired by the famous promenade of Cannes, France, further enhance its allure.

What makes the Ansonia “La Cannes” clock collectible is a combination of factors including its rarity, historical significance, and artistic merit. As one of the more elaborate models produced by Ansonia, it is not as commonly found as some other models, making it an exciting find for collectors. Additionally, its design incorporates elements of the Aesthetic Movement, a cultural shift in decorative arts that valued beauty and originality over practicality, which adds to its historical and artistic importance.

Notable features of the Ansonia “La Cannes” clock include its eight-day time-and-strike movement with a weight-driven system, a large dial with Roman numerals, and an ornate brass pendulum bob. The clock’s finely crafted details, such as the carved floral motifs on the base and the intricate brass filigree work on the hood, are testaments to the high level
