About the Ansonia “Cymric” Clock
Title: Ansonia “Cymric” Clock Model: A Collector’s Delight
The Ansonia “Cymric” clock, produced between 1895 and 1905, is a renowned mantel clock model that continues to captivate antique clock collectors worldwide. This exquisite timepiece is not only a testament to Ansonia’s exceptional craftsmanship but also a reflection of the ornate Victorian aesthetic during its production era.
The “Cymric” clock’s case is typically constructed from high-quality materials such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, adorned with intricate scrollwork and floral motifs inspired by Welsh Cymru design, hence the name “Cymric.” The case usually features a hood with a glass dome protecting the dial and pendulum, adding an extra layer of elegance.
What sets the Ansonia “Cymric” clock apart as a collectible piece is its exceptional level of detail and craftsmanship, as well as its rarity due to limited production numbers. Notable features include the finely-detailed cast bronze figures that often adorn the corners of the hood and the ornate brass pendulum bob. The “Cymric” clock’s striking mechanism is equally impressive, with a Westminster chime option available for some models, adding a melodious touch to this already enchanting timepiece.
For collectors, the Ansonia “Cymric” clock offers not only a beautiful addition to their collection but also a glimpse into the rich history of American clock making during the Victorian era.
